Dude, already since i last dropped by you have started showing real progression in your work. The morgan piece is coming along nicely, and that still life is looking great. I don't know how the fuck you painted those cards on top but they look real 0.0. Stay vigilant with your studies, it's clear that your working hard its paying off so make sure you carry on as you are doing ;p

Veer

Hey man, nice evolution here! I like your perseverence! And the chicks, too!
Do you do construction when you draw? Because there's a difference between your line drawings and you painting studies, the latter are better. When you have the pencil and the paper, things can get daunting if you don't understand what you're drawing. I know when i started to draw, my line was awful, and everything i drew was out of proportion and flat. After a while i started using simple shapes, like cubes, spheres, cones to simplify what i wanted to draw and it was easier to put them in perspective and shade them to look more belivable. Go ahead and try!
Ah, and this might help you! http://babelab.blogspot.ro/2012/02/seque...31e80223ec
Warburton - Haha, just a bit of Photoshop trickery for the cards. Made a brush for the pattern, and transformed it on. No way was I going to draw them all. Glad you liked it though man :).

Veer - Yeah, I definitely need to think about my construction more, when I work. Sometimes I just forget and realise I've been doodling without thinking. Oh cool, that post's awesome. Bookmarked. Cheers man.

So, it's been christmas so everythings been a bit more up in the air. Here's what I've got to show.

Oh man, great progress and tons of work. I like the mordred dude, his eyes look weird to me tho.
Your workflow is inspiring, keep it upp!

Liberty: Construction aside, the eyes look good in terms of values. when eyes are in shadow they almost entirely blend in with the face, adding to the realism if thats whats your going for.
You're work is really tightening up. And you're conscious of your plains. Something I might recommend now would be for you to start analyzing your lines and contours start exploring their emphasis. Right now, they look a little idealized. Also, with faces, Try to describe a bit more with just shadow and see where that gets you before going into further delineation. Look at artists like Jason Chan and Wes Burt and see just how mach they're able to describe with very minimal effort. Don't think you have to draw the whole eye or nose when sometimes most of the information your getting is acquired through shadow shapes and everything else is hinted at.
Liberty - Thank you. Yeah, I've been struggling with him. We'll see.

Lumens - Thanks man, means a lot. I'll try ;)

ndhill - Thanks for the comments. I'll definitely look into that. I've noticed them doing it in the past, but never sat down and tried to do it myself. Something to consider anyway, cheers :)

So, been crappy and not posting again. Back to regular posts soon.

Right, so I've been trawling through old sketchbooks recently, and decided to mix up what I'm working on a bit. I've been doing studies, but I'm not really learning all that much from them, so gonna try and focus more on imagination stuff. Also, going to be applying the studies I do much more literally.

So, stuff from this morning.

Dave

And Miles

If you haven't had a chance to look through them, or you've only flicked through, its definitely worth having a more in depth look. You can kinda see how people learned, and how they picked up new stuff. Pretty interesting, and very inspiring.
Great sketchbook, sir. A lot of good work here. Really like your Loomis stuff. :)
