Applying Studies/Fundamentals class: Hungry for art - John Silva - 10-02-2012 Hi Guys! My name is John Silva and I like to paint and teach. Here's my website: www.johnsilvaart.tk , FB: https://www.facebook.com/john.silva.3511 and Twitter: https://twitter.com/JohnSilvaArt This class will be all about fundamentals but mainly with a strong focus on Studies. That's the number 1 thing all of us get asked about... How do you study? How do you apply studies? What do you think when studying? How do you Analise the study? Why do you study? and so on and so forth... To put it simply, studying and fundamentals are what make you able to pull out crap from your imagination without the need to peek at reference... Granted there is no "Right or Wrong" way to study, but I strongly believe there's a "Faster and Slower" way to grow faster through studies. -Class name: Hungry for art -Willing to take 3 students at the time -1-2 months class, 1 meeting per week for about 2-3 hours. -Starting at:?? (still deciding exactly when to start, check back for update on this or propose a date.) -Classes to include homework assignments, in depth paint-over and critique, discussion and analysis of work as it develops. Class 1 - Introduction to studies. -What is a study and what is its purpose? -How to apply different effective ways to study? -How to pick the right reference? -Analyzing edges. -Portfolio illustration Art description assignment. Class 2 - Dissecting References. - Analyzing the forms. - Analyzing Light with a super slow motion camera. (really cool believe me) - Analyzing color. - Critics/paint-overs on the portfolio wips. - Study Assignments. Class 3 - Memory. - Techniques of visual memorization. - Discussing repetition. - Critics/paint-overs on the portfolio wips. - Study and fundamental Assignments. Final Class 4 - Portfolio Revision. - Reviewing what was learned. - Using reference for details. - Final Critiques/Paint-overs. - Pancake party! How will you pick your students? (With a dice) I'll be picking one random beginner, one random intermediate and one random advanced, because I don't want to leave out anyone due to its level, so I'm taking from all levels/ When will you choose the students? I'll keep positions open until the 12th of October and on the same day I'll announce who got picked. If I'll be picked, how are we gonna communicate? Through Skype. If you don't have a Skype account then you'll have to make one, also try to get a microphone if you don't have any, it'd make my life a lot easier. BEWARE: I'll kick people out if someone shows no interest or fail to accomplish the assignments and homework. To apply please leave your portfolio here and it'd be cool to write something about yourself as well! Stay cool :D RE: Hungry for art - sinnerman - 10-02-2012 I'm up for it! I'm self-taught so every kind of help is much appreciated. http://harkobotond.carbonmade.com/ RE: Hungry for art - EduardoGaray - 10-02-2012 I´m really interested in this John :) When i do studies, i feel a bit lost sometimes, so i think i have much to learn from this classes! I´m fantasy oriented but i would like to work with sci fi/space opera/military themes aswell. http://eduardogarayart.blogspot.com.es/ RE: Hungry for art - Amaakir - 10-02-2012 Hey, John! Im really interested. Being a self taught artist I really never learned anything about studies up until recently from CGhub...still I've always tried learning backways, doing finished artwork and trying to learn what I can from them. I'd like to learn how to go the more professional way of heading into studies and applying them correctly. :) Here's my portfolio: www.amaakir.cghub.com and my Sketchbook: http://cghub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8335 Cheers and thanks for this! RE: Hungry for art - Forrestimel - 10-02-2012 Hey John, I enjoy your artwork very much :D I've been entirely self taught, I did take a semester at TAD doing a figure 1 class but I didn't do much of the homework and have regretted it ever since. Right now I'm 18 years old, living downstairs in my parents house with my girlfriend, and am trying desperately to get better at art. Here is my portfolio: http://forresti.daportfolio.com/ RE: Hungry for art - Sickbrush - 10-02-2012 wohoo awesome! RE: Hungry for art - Shredguts - 10-02-2012 Rock on , John! I'm Luke. I have admired your style, and have long wanted to push my art to such a level. My "portfolio" of sorts is merely a facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/lukeschroderart , but shows much of my style. I need to work on composition, environments, and plenty more areas as I'm sure you'll see. Thanks for your time. I would love to be apart of this :) I'm a self taught artist based in Melbourne, Australia. 20 yrs old. Definitely feel like I need some proper direction with my studying, a lot of the time it feels like it is directionless but I just keep going at it. I have trouble with 'applying studies' and would find knowing the more beneficial ways to study very helpful :) One question - just wondering if the lessons etc will be posted online to view or if you HAVE to be selected to view them?
