Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-03-2013 Hi all, My goal for this is to track my progress as I go along and head towards my goal. First off, I'm a graphic designer by profession. And just recently tried to steer my way into illustrations. So here's some of my old free time doodles from the past year. And here are my studies and sketches from the past 2-3 months Started off with some figure drawing lessons This will be quite a slow progress for me since I'm working 10-12 hrs on weekdays and I only get to have 5hrs max on my studies and personal stuff. Guess I came too late for this kind of thing but its quite fulfilling in my part. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - TNiznet - 08-03-2013 Hey Ruff, nice studies, those typographic sketches are awesome, I bet you turn them into awesome Graphic posters. 5 hours is better than nothing man, I would say you should draw from life to begin with, learn to accurately see, do self portraits looking at the mirror and then progress to anatomy. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-04-2013 Thanks man. I actually went through the free figure drawing from imagination off of drawing-tutorials-online.com subscription. It sorta gave me a reason to draw in some ways. Well, to continue show my progress(?) from past months... And some master studies. My first complete paintings Paul Lassaine El-Dorado (quick sketch) Thomas Moran (took me 3 days / roughly 13-15hrs as I badly needed to finish something) RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-05-2013 couple of WIPs of my Starveil entry RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-07-2013 Some texture studies for a piece I am working. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-16-2013 Today's quick sketch: Everyday, before I start on projects or studies, I spend around 30mins to an hour just doodle anything trying to find forms from texture brushes. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-17-2013 Quick still life - 30min.-ish RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - crackedskull - 08-17-2013 Keep up the studies and concepts. Youre doing great so far. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-18-2013 @crackedskull - Thanks man. Today's daily warm-up: RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-18-2013 swamp study RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - JBZ - 08-18-2013 Doing studies before and during your actual illustration is fundamental, from my point of view. Good work, keep it up dude ;) RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-19-2013 @JBZ: True that man. Especially in my case where my visual library's still limited. Thanks for the encouragement. :) So, today's quite a slow day. Power interruption killed my vibe, so I had this sketch to hopefully kickstart for some works tomorrow. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-20-2013 I saw Mark Molnar's warm-up sessions on youtube. And I thought to myself to try it for my warmup sessions also. So here's my first attempt. (Approx. 10-15mins per sketch) I certainly enjoyed it, and it pumped me a bit to proceed on what I've been working on. I highly recommend for anyone to try this out. It's a great exercise. Cheers! :) RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-21-2013 Here's a generic environment sketch. Today's warm-up RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-21-2013 Just want to share my first creature/alien sketch. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-22-2013 Slow day for painting today, so I might shift to some figure drawings a little later. RE: Ralph's Sketches and Stuff - ruffledo - 08-22-2013 So after the slump I had earlier, and was really not going anywhere with the projects I've been working on, I diverted into making a cheesy dedication portrait. After I saw what Dan Luvisi did, I thought we almost had the same story and I planned on making something for my fiance also. It's still a WIP for now. I want to hear your thoughts on it also, Any tips on how to improve, stuff like that. *So sorry though if I can't post her picture in here, she's a really private person so yeah, again I apologize. Comments on general color, light and form stuff would be gladly appreciated.
