RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-02-2019 imagination sketchin today before i go balls deep into john grello RE: Fedodika the Koala - darktiste - 07-02-2019 The face are looking more distinct in term of gender.I feel like some of the nose are bit croocked specially the nostril.Any chance to see you experiment with hairstyle in a near future? RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-03-2019 Darkiste: im picking up a few things on hair design with my grello studies; though dont expect my hair drawings to get much more complex as the stuff im currently doing, unless its absolutely necessary for a piece to have hair more rendered or designed than how say, loomis or leyendecker would paint it all day on grello 7/70 pages done also got framed perspective, real nightmare of a book on technical drawing, ill probably crank through it after i get all this figure stuff sorted out a few months from now; i do wanna draw awesome cities and mechs for these characters and go above and beyond, so i dont wanna put it off for too long RE: Fedodika the Koala - Hobitt - 07-03-2019 (07-03-2019, 12:32 PM)Fedodika Wrote: also got framed perspective, real nightmare of a book on technical drawing, ill probably crank through it after i get all this figure stuff sorted out a few months from nowWhat do you mean crank through a perspective book? perspective is just a tool used for solving very specific problems ( i mean the form that is in the book, not the general concept of perspective) Just use that book when you have a problem in a piece , you don't need to grind that stuff just apply it.Looking forward to those personal pieces! RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-04-2019 Hobbitt: i understand that, ill be taking more notes on this one, but itll be later on; i do wanna attempt some of the challenging illustrations in the book but i also want to absorb each page because perspective is something i wanna get in the toolset, at least really challenging angles and personal pieces will be coming once i can get this laundry list of studies i want to get done accomplished. I want my next personal piece to be finger lickin good. That and i want a good skillset for inktober, which is mostly why im doing all these studies on paper Gonna probably finish the mural this month, 4 more pictures to do, the last will be a very very long dragon, im gonna have to pin it to several walls and get creative, ill probably do that the last week of the month 14/70 grello pages RE: Fedodika the Koala - chubby_cat - 07-04-2019 "finger lickin good" haha. Can't wait to see some personal work from you, Fed. Also keep up the good work with the John Grello studies. He's a great artist to observe and learn off. Out of curiosity, where are you getting his images from? I noticed lately he culled a lot of the images on his Artstation. RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-06-2019 Chubby: thanks <3 and yea i noticed that about john, its cuz hes promoting his book and probably using some of that work in it, so i went digging on google images; fortuantely random things on the internet will archive pictures like pinterest or random blogs so you can still find all those pictures to his chagrin ;P And i may do a personal/personal piece this month, the mural is personal but its still for someone else in the end. got some kind words from the old folks at life drawing today, made me feel good, a lot more praise than usual nice encouragement! may not post tomorrow we'll see, might squeeze somethin in RE: Fedodika the Koala - IrishWhiskey - 07-07-2019 Those Face sketches on the loose pages are so cool. just went back to your first page and got so f~cking inspired RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-08-2019 Irish: glad youre inspried bro!! Thats what its all here for! on page 35-70 of grello, shaved off two duplicates so its 35-68 im gaining a good grasp on the reilly lay in, its a swinging process, quite fun and gets good symmetry and proportions most the time, however i still struggle with some poses, but thats why im practicin em also was thumbing through how to draw by scott robertson and its nowhere near as intimidating as when i first got it. Ill definitely be reading that soon and copying some of the mechs and interesting car lay in things they seem useful, since i want to do mechs as well soon RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-10-2019 couple imagination pieces today, was good fun, ordered some mech sketchbooks to learn from on like 35 of 68 grello since i didnt touch it today but ill get to it tomorrow also some watts studies, hard to believe he does these in 2 minutes, but i watched him do it, i do them in like 6 RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-11-2019 more blup blup pg 42/68 grello n some jeff mural tomorrowz RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-13-2019 reeeeeeeeeeee grello 44/68 RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-15-2019 had a lot of extra motiviation today, i wrapped up the grello stuff. got about 60/67 pages done, i skipped a few since some of them have quick drawings that i dont think are worth copying. Got a lotta cool things out of it, like alot of lay in practice and some visual library stuff, as well as making nice attractive lines to simply define a face. Also did a gouache study of ruo li, gonna do more of these coming up since i may have a commission soon to paint a landscape and its not something ive studied too much. also for the 2nd to last mural piece im gonna try to push myself and do a more complex perspective scene of like an asian dock in feudal times, so ill be using some sketchup to block it out once i get a clear idea of the picture. ALSO! gonna be going back through the rest of the watts quick sketch stuff, before i start, yes crankin through a pose book to apply it at different time intervals of like 5-10-20 mins. ALSOOOOOOOOOO gonna do a sheet of faces from imagination tomorrow to apply some stuff after brainstorming while im sleepin tonight RE: Fedodika the Koala - chubby_cat - 07-15-2019 Looking forward to seeing your imagination faces you plan to do. Just a small observation - some of your face studies seem to extend beyond the page and a lot of the time the forehead or side gets cropped out. It's not a bad thing, but I think it would be interesting for you to try and challenge yourself with having every head fit onto the page RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-16-2019 chubby: yea thats a habit i developed from years of digital, starting a drawing with big sweeping lines then using the transform tool to make it a manageable size, so that translated over to paper. I can beat that habit with figures pretty reliably but often i just forget when studying just a face. But yea, bad habits die hard gouache study in umber, i tried to draw a little smaller and it payed off interestingly. also some quick sketch and imagination faces :D Spent about 3 hrs on these, tweaking them and such, gonna do some studies for that perspective thing in the mural tomorrow and try to come up with a composition RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-17-2019 nother gouache study and some studies of the asian buildings from age of empires 2, gonna do some sketches tomorrow for a scene before i block it all out RE: Fedodika the Koala - darktiste - 07-17-2019 I am not an expert on gouache but from what i understand those painting would be consider to have muddy value if i am right.I am no where an expert in paiting but i think this video can help you fix that issue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFUwh31gTXo for my estimation you either use to much water or you mix color will there still wet or you don't follow the color wheel principle of bias or you don't use 2 jar to get a clean the brush or you have some left over paint on the brush because you didn't wash the brush enough.I hope i gave you some trail that will help you find out how to fix this issue. I like your study of age of empire structure it make me want to do the same. RE: Fedodika the Koala - JosephCow - 07-18-2019 I've tried gouache a bit as well had similar difficulties with the murkiness. It's really hard to keep things under control. RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 07-19-2019 Darkiste: yep, i noticed that, and its a problem with not tiling the strokes and like swishing it around with the brush thats dry. Gouache looks best when its very opaque and laid on thick. Of course, my habits from digital carry over of itchy strokes, so its somethin to be self aware of. The video you sent was not helpful, but it inspired me to look into gurneys stuff which i finally can appreciate for my endeavors so thanks anyways Joseph; Watch a few gurney vids on youtube, hes excellent at gouache paintings and soon ill be doing some studies of his plein air stuff since its got me inspired :) try to drop the use of "turp" what you may be used to and think in larger blocks of tone, use the biggest brush possible, loaded with a very premeditated mix. and of course priming the canvas with a yellow ochre, say watercolor helps kill the white and make the process flow better Sooooo, lots of quick sketch, im loving these so much, i really really really really really love how jeff draws and i cant believe he does these in 3 minutes, it takes me 6, but im absorbing loads of good stuff from them and its very inspiring. Next week ill be doing a really big picture, that'll take a lot of time and effort and will be really daunting. But im ready! itll be a journey, ill keep ya updated 50+ foot long asian dragon on fabric with black paint, fun fun fun <3 after the dragon, i plan to blast through a pose book, and a mech (Sketch) book, then do some portfolio stuff for a month because i think ill have a decent skillset then to knock out pieces in a reasonable time with the accompanying elements i want. And just to think... 4 years ago, i thought i was here lol RE: Fedodika the Koala - darktiste - 07-19-2019 Lol how strange i was gonna recommend it but was not sure you had the book so i opted for the video.I was speed reading the table of content but i didn't saw something that caught my attention for this particular issue anyway glad it inspired you.I forgot to mention an other possible cause it was also possibly due to not ''wetting'' the canvas before paint meaning not putting a base tone on the canvas. This can have severe consequence on how the paint behave on a verticale surface with other color or gravity it act as a ''glue''so that the paint doesn't fall off it also if i am correct help the paint stick and not spread into other color. |
