RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 08-10-2013

I'm bad at environments :(

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 09-12-2013

So I've been off the grid for a while but I'm coming back! Got stuff straightened out and will be studying and posting more regularly from now on.
So here's some stuff I've done while I was gone

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 10-14-2013

Oh, I haven't been here in a while... so... how's everyone doing? Are people still active on the Daggers forum?

Anyway I've done some stuff but I've spend all my time over on CA. Here are some thing I've done in the past few weeks. I'll try and be more active on this site too, it's juts sooo many sites I need to update every time I do something, I tend to forget about the Daggers

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Kaffer - 10-15-2013

Those studies are pretty nice, and that last creature is gonna be an asesome creeper!

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 12-15-2013

Been gone for a while.. again.
Will try and switch over so the Daggers forum is my primary site instead of CA. Will still post on both but there is just so much weird stuff going on over at ConceptArt.

Here's a summary of the stuff I've done while I was gone. Not everything but a chunk of it.

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Adam Lina - 12-16-2013

That arm anatomy study is awesome! Where did you study it from or is that just you adding your own style to something else? The forms look shweeet and so does you line quality. I've recently been trying to learn arm anatomy more in depth so it really caught my attention. Great looking SB too!

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Mr. Toodles - 12-16-2013

I am a fan :) haha

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 12-20-2013

I think those arms are studies from a Bridgman book :)
Thanks guys!
Late night sketch

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Jonesoda - 12-22-2013

wooah that page with all the head studies is sick as hell, really great practice - I need to try that out! love that still life up the page with the pears as well.

Keep pushing it man.

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 12-23-2013

Thanks man. That head thing I did was really fun and I did it as a warmup for the Loomis book Head and Hands where he said you should practice the general shape and placement of features before continuing with the book. Maybe I'll upload all my sketches I do as a result of that book.

Anyway. here are two quick environments. Haven't done any in a long time and it's something I keep forgetting to study (I'm too interested in the human figure).

Here is a gif on how I sketch

And here is the finished image. I want to thank the folk over at the artist google hangout for keeping me company, giving advice and paintovers

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - hemad - 02-07-2014

I really love your work. Are all the paintings digital? You do a great job at masking the digital imprint, if so. How do you go about do so?

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Olooriel - 02-07-2014

I'm so jealous. Awesome work!!

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Wils - 02-07-2014

Really cool work man, the looseness to your lines and brushstrokes is quite refreshing. I'll definitely be coming back to check on your sketchbook, so keep it updated!

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - milkdose - 02-07-2014

I Love. Your. Work. This is what I'm all about! I love the texture and subject matter so much. How do you get such nice texture?

RE: Tristan's sketchbook - Tristan Berndt - 02-09-2014

hemad: Thanks. Yup, everything except the pencil/ink stuff is digital. The way I go about it is just using brushes that have textures on them and non-round shapes. I'm also very careful with soft brushes because they really make stuff look digital if you don't paint over them after. I use a lot of the Jamie Jones brushes so you could try them out and se if it helps. Also master studies are good for learning how to make stuff look non-digital.

Olooriel: Thank you ^^

Wils: Thanks! I have a love for nice brush language (or whatever it's called). People like Jamie Jones, Peleng and Paul W Ruiz are just a few of my inspirations when it comes to using brush strokes to make stuff cool... I still have a lot to learn about that stuff

Danny: Thank you! The weird thing is that I don't really think about texture too much. I use chalk textured brushes for almost everything and just using it for all of my painting leaves a slight trace behind. There is also this setting I have on a lot of my brushes that make the color/value jitter just a little bit. It's hardly noticeable but I like it (I got it from the Jamie Jones brush pack, you can find most of the brushes I use there). I'm not a fan of photo-textures or brushes that are made just to texture things. I try to follow the "brushes don't matter" thing and if I need a specific texture or something I'll just paint it by hand.

aaaaand here's a study
