RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-03-2018

highly reccomend doing life studies man, and trying to just make it look more like the subject, as much as you can... The amount of shit you notice when you come to terms with the thought that when you think its done its not done is very enlightening. Just keep making it look more like, theres always more things to learn from a complex object like a skull or a figure. Appreciating all the curves and subtleties and stylizing... so fun, so satisfying :)

Im monitorin yo MAMA

Also started on 1000 ribs and pelvis and man i'm screwin these up way more than i thought i would. owell, i'll post those once i get over 100 im at 60 rn

And lol the perspective on the single skull is warped cuz my finger in the photo, FML i am proud of this drawing tho!

Edit: Oh shit Ubem i just noticed your post from yesterday... I agree!

more failz

Those plane studies look really good and I'm really digging those gesture drawings as well. It looks like you're really starting to nail drawing down, time to transfer that over to painting!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-06-2018

Yang: Hey thanks man haha, but dont get your hopes up too soon haha! I got quite a few things to hammer down before i even bother with trying to paint again. I wanna make some pretty charming stuff before i try painting them, but your comment is something i'll keep in mind for sure haha

Some more iterative stuff appying a few riley method concepts. Doing these torsoes and pelvises is fun and is helping me see more little things i can do to vary the subtelty of the poses... This will definitely pay off when i get into more imaginative work. Iterative drawing is ridiculously cool, such an effective way to just get shit sorted out so it becomes so little of a problem that it becomes an area of play instead!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-07-2018

wasted lots of time today..

doing these pelvis/torso boxes are quite interesting, similar to the bean, and using reference for it is better than imagination IMO since you have to stylize anyways to create the form and see the angle right, really can help my gestures i think if i supplement them in. Also trying to memorize the riley rythms, tough!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-08-2018

mmkay, so a few things...

This sculpture im gonna crop the bust part out and focus on fixing the horrible likeness lol. My goal was to block out the proportions in digital without using the transform tool and while i did succeed in that, the face suffered me drawing it and examining it well.

With gesture, if a form is totally in profile or appears to be a completely flat shape, pick a slightly different angle and show the dimensionality of the forms. Sure you cant copy the reference exactly, but thats the difference between showing form and copying contours. Copying contour gives flat lifeless drawings, specially if you dont stylize/customize the forms and proportions.

Photos dont always have the best pose or angle, and you can adjust things to your liking. I tried to show that with a reclining pose in the batch here, its super useful and challenges your fundamentals :)

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-09-2018

Tryinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnna figure some shit out!

Got a better pic of that skull i was happy with hehe

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-10-2018

want a challenge? 2 values, minimal lines, capture the character of a portrait... spend hours and hours, if you can get it right, ye shall inherit the earth

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-11-2018

hwuh i feel like i get so close with these hmm, anyways mentoring tomorrow, we'll see how worth a shit it all was!

An absolutely phenomenal catalog of progress! Your grind is inspiring and it is something that I have come to love in any sketchbook that I visit, especially within the spirit of the Crimson Daggers community.

Though I am infinitely curious as to how far you can push something on a more ambitious, atelier style/longterm project (like painting something for a month).

Strength, Fedolika!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-12-2018

Harbinger: Thank you so much my dude! Will get to something like that soon hopefully!

just some quick doodles today hoo hoo!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-13-2018

aight so ive been needing to commit to some kinda routine you know, at least like a minimum of stuff because i hate turning up with little or nothing to show on some days. This happens cuz i spend lots of time reading or just wasting time or whatever.. So like, one thing i really need to do is observe more from a distance and learn to see angles properly. The skulls i was drawing from life today really kicked my ass; I tried sitting about two feet from it and drawing and man the mistakes are just ugly but im not gonna hide em!

Also gonna be copying another more academic artist like Erik Gist or just ppl at a super high level cuz thats where i wanna be. Doing head gestures today was interesting, like laying in construction quickly and stuff really gets me to minimize and think about symmetry and stuff, feels like a good thing to go at so i can approach head study from different angles to keep my attention

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-14-2018

more shitty studies; Im sitting too close! Idk why i draw stuff so big on the page, need to try and sit further so im not so tempted. Lovin the schedule tho; studied some jean baptiste greuze today, love his rough linework, will be revisiting for sure :)

RE: Fedodika the Koala - NoodleInBox - 01-14-2018

The skull studies look very wonky man. I know that you can do way better! Draw them a bit smaller and SLOWER they always seem so rushed

RE: Fedodika the Koala - HIRVIOS - 01-15-2018

Your dedication is inspirational!
But I gotta say, why do you have to draw everything so large?
As the guy above me says, make things smaller!

When you make your drawings so large (especially in traditional) you can get tunnel-vision,
that's why your work tends to have some wonky proportions.
Make things 3-4 times smaller, you'll spend less time rendering and focusing more on the proportions!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-15-2018

Hirvios/Noodle: Thanks yall are very correct on that heh.. I am struggling so much with this observation stuff its crazy. I feel like i have the observation skills of someone who's drawn less than half the time as me!

I'm gonna be trying to get this skull down from a distance from now on, at least 8 feet from me. Also gonna be working on making a drawing just look 100% correct with the angles and proportions. Observation is my biggest weakness and i feel it will benefit me immensely should i take my time and try to just get shit to look like the subject. Construction is fun and all that stuff, but i am tired of half assedly copying things and they be skewed or not even resemble the correct angle the thing is sitting on.

I drew this skull for probably 6 hrs today, just erasing, starting over, erasing again, I couldn't for the life of me draw a line that resembled the proper direction it was sitting on. The reasons the ones yesterday looked so shit was because the skull was 1 foot from me, and yes you do get tunnel vision doing that. I'm not ashamed of this one, but it still is not at the angle it was sitting, the drawing is tilted about 10 degrees from what it was IRL and the proportions are what i consider "made up." As in they seem satisfactory, but they are not what the subject actually is. If i could just figure this out, i could do anything, so that's what I'll spend this month doing

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-16-2018

Did a quick skully thing maybe 1n 1/2 hrsish, geeze i paint so different now... it's all like zooming out, thinking big light shapes and stuff, not sure what to think about it! Also a little more nudging on this thing

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-17-2018

more observation stuff... Such a pain in the ass for me; Listened to the entirety of Platos Republic today just between fixing this skull and this beard dude and they still aint right! man trying to get the right angle on this skull is oppressive, but i am getting quite close i think; I even discovered my own primitive grid method doing this and doing every little thing i could come up with to measure better so despite me feeling this is unproductive, i may actually be getting somewhere

If i can figure this shit out man eeeverything will be sooo much easier... and better!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 01-18-2018

anatomys fun, this back is from memory, the rest is just more observation on the same things
