Dang, your sketchbook is super impressive! Your anatomy studies are top-notch, and I love you finished painting. I can't wait to see more.

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Samszym - 05-29-2014

Aw ya, that pose is looking much more convincing now, nice job on the studying! Your observations seem solid to me more tense means more interested/alert in a simple way of thinking. I think "the pose looks more lazy the more things the body uses to support itself, rather than holding itself up" is a pretty smart way of looking at it.
Only thing I'd say to keep in mind is that just because a part of the body is touching something doesn't necessarily mean it's putting weight on it. But that's more relevant when you're doing an action pose and want to show something in motion, just about to leave the thing it's touching, or having just touched it

nice stuff dude, glad you're thinking more about pose language :D

DomSinkevic Thanks Dom, I did blur the tiles a bit but I didn't see them as too distracting in the image really, at least not enough to keep them simple and smooth :p

ZombieChinchilla thank you :)

Sam thanks man :D

Wooooow havent posted in awhile. Gotta fix that, I'm back on the study train once more. Had to take a little break adjusting to my girlfriend starting cosmetology school but all is good now. So here's the finished Hera, some studies and a WIP.

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Ursula Dorada - 06-07-2014

Your gestures are so beautiful and clean man <3

Also, on the last study (the underwater one): the hair on your study looks darker than the ref. Maybe bump up the saturation a bit? Saturation in blues can make a lot of optical illusions like that.

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Cyprinus - 06-07-2014

Great sketchbook and great improvement! I love those fluid lines! Also, I have so much respect for people who can see colour so well, your studies are really great! Also, I'm glad I saw so many people here taking notes during studying like you. It seems really dumb but I never did it before, but recently I'm doing it too and it really helps a lot.

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Forrestimel - 06-10-2014

Ursula Dorada thanks Ursula :) And yeah I saw it was darker but just decided to not change it and compare my value with the value of the original photo

Cyprinus Thank you :) Yeah the notes help so freaking much it's great

Just a few studies, I'll show what I'm applying them to soon :)

Values, colors, gestures, everything spot on man.. Only crit: in the water-elemental thingy the backround is either a bit raw, or a bit too developed, I can't decide.. I'd probably push it back more, right now it has quite a bit of sharp edges which draw attention from the focus.. but thats about it, cool stuff! :)

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Craig Paton - 06-14-2014

Things are looking good here Mr. Forrest. You gettin' scary good.

I reckon in time you could probably take Dave and Dan in a fight, and then you'll be running this place.

Liked your YouTube vids and I wanna see more. :D

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - inksourt - 06-14-2014

good jobs that you have

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Samszym - 06-15-2014

Craig has a good idea. Hey, what if our destined MMA fight on a mountaintop is actually a tag team against dan and dave?

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Flo - 06-15-2014

Hey there,

your water elemental piece turned out awesome. I looked into the tutorial you did for it, and it is one of the most helpful things ever. thanks a lot for that.

the only crit I have for the piece is that I find it hard to concentrate on the mage, since I get drawn to the glowing eye of the elemental pretty much. more contrast on him and mirroring the blue glow on hin somewhere (hands, staff, eyes, etc.) could make it easier to switch between the elemental and him.

other than that, you are obviously doing great.

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Forrestimel - 06-18-2014

Kaffer Thanks :) And I see what you mean, there were a couple things I noticed that I wanted to change about the image after I had posted it around but I figure it's just lessons to keep in mind for my next illustration :p

Craig Dave and Dan have already given me the forums, I secretly run the show here, just behind the curtains ;) And thanks ha

inksourt thank you :D

Sam God I hope so, but only if we mud wrestle afterwards.

Flo Thanks Flo! And yeah I see what you mean. Dang, I've looked at it for so long I didn't really notice, I could've benefited from desaturating or darkening the eye for sure, oh well :D ha, thanks though. And I'm glad you like the tutorial!

Studies studies studies. Sorry for shitty camera phone quality on the traditional stuff :p

Oh and I did a new youtube video about Value! :D

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Forrestimel - 06-26-2014

Well I have no client work for a couple days at least so I wanted to take the time to work my ass off while making a new character for my portfolio.

I'm so frickin wiped out now so I'm gonna relax with some GW2 :)

Your stuff is looking brilliant mate, you're really starting to progress at a phenomenal rate!

RE: Forrest's Sketchbook of Wondercanes and Dreamsicles. - Forrestimel - 06-27-2014

Thank you slink :)

Alright, didn't get as much done today as I wanted but still got some junk done. Did a color/lighting study from Oblivion and a really quick rough study just to get an idea of how to place the feet in my new image and how the shadows below the character might look. And then of course I worked on the character. Still not sure if I wanna go with the fiery daggers or not, any opinions? Also her head is looking a little big to me but proportionally it's fine I'm pretty sure, anyone else think maybe I should make the head bigger?
