CRIMSON CHOW #7 - The Marksman WIP - pnate - 11-17-2014

Hello Daggers!

Welcome to the Crimson CHOW (Character of the Week)! This is a biweekly challenge which was created as a way to hone your skills in design and character creation, in a fun and competitive way. Each challenge, we will give you a short character prompt and it is your task to interpret the character as you imagine it, with your own unique spin. The winner will be chosen through a poll in the finals thread, and in addition to being able to pick the next challenge topic, his/her piece will be featured in the "Crimson Champions" Winner's thread!

He leapt from rooftop to rooftop with the agility and precision of a leopard stalking his prey. The moonlight cut through the streets like a knife, illuminating his victims and marking them for death. He notched the first arrow into his drawstring, four arrows remaining in his quiver. "Five targets, five arrows"

Your task: Design the Marksman. He never misses.


Guidelines:
  • Environment backgrounds are optional.
  • Keep in mind you are not required to stick to what is in the passage. It is more of a guide in terms of mood.
  • Photo textures, 3D, and traditional mediums are allowed.
  • There is no restriction on the character's gender, time period or culture.
  • Studies are recommended, but not required.
  • There is no restriction on image formats (horizontal, vertical, square).
Rules:
  • You must post at least one WIP in the WIP thread to be accepted into the final poll.
  • Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline.
  • At least 3/4 of the character must be visible (minimum from the knees up). No back views are allowed without a front.
  • Only ONE character please.
  • Only ONE submission per person in the finals thread.
  • Sketches, WIPs, or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll.
  • No fanart. We want to see your original, unique interpretations!
  • Have fun!

Here's my idea ... Theeee philosooooo raptooo ... *cough* I mean ...

It's the raptor that made a pact with the Devil (the kind of thing you do on weekends). He gave up his left arm and as a gift he received in return mutation in his right one (along with half his body). Making it a deadly precision weapon that could fire at a huge range and keep projectile speed the same. It fires bones that were created along with it's mutation. At first he had 7 shots to spare.

It's been 3 years since he last used one and none of them replenished. It seems like he only has 5 chances left ... and 5 people to kill.

fedodika - I don't think I got it, she is a blind girl with a small pig, it feels like you put a small quiver on her back just so she fits in the challenge brief

artleech, that merc of yours is looking legit!

Marksman-woman-lady-thing. She uses levitation magic to fly around, and shoots super spicy magic arrows that float around her.

Working away on this submission. Kinda terrifying working traditionally, especially in water color. There isn't much scope to fix mistakes!

So was working on this for a while and it kinda got away from me and from the subject, will restart. I really liked this character though, so felt like sharing. Still need to clean it up pose is a little off, but will do that later. When I restart gonna aim for a little companion to go along with this one.

Stepping out my comfort zone a bit (comp, colours, pose etc). Focusing on the illustration side a bit more this time, not sure where the design is going.

Also not sure if i'm going to finish this in time lol so much leftt to doo
