Torso studies. I did studies from photos first and then I tried to apply the knowledge by coming up with poses from imagination.

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Othrandir - 04-30-2015

Helloooooo hello hello hello hello hello hello and good evening ladies and gentleman! (I'm trying to do the Stephen Fry's QI intro :D)

Aaaanyway, been super busy lately with commissions, uni and other things. My tablet is braking little by little and I'll be forced to buy a new one. That of course is going to make me get more jobs aand making me even busier. I also have a major project for uni that I have to work on? Want to hear about it? Well you don't really have a choice (actually you do and you could just stop reading). We were meant to start specialising for this project, so some people would do their project as 3D modelers, some game designers, some UI designers etc etc. I of course opted for the concept art/ illustration type thing. Behind every end product we have they want us to have a "why". By that they mean some kind of meaning. For me, I have chosen to portray just how much religion's been utilised as a facade for wars. By that I mean that a lot of people have died and suffered in the face of religion. I will be doing a triptych and in each illustration I'll be showing such suffering or fighting in a different age. First will be the crusades, second the spanish inquisition and third...possibly ISIS? I still haven't decided for the third one. I know I want it to be modern though. Anyway, I want to make big swooping fight scenes, especially for the crusades and you know just how much work that is. Egh, whatever I'll get it done somehow. Just gotta keep working.

Here are some sketchbook pages and things and scribbles and doodles and drawings and images and.... aaah you get the big picture *baddum tss*

very nice figure work :) love the torso sketches at the top, can really see the anatomy studies are improving your own ideas.

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Othrandir - 05-01-2015

rainbowsorknives - thanks! I really think they are! I actually enjoy them more than stuff from imagination at the moment :D

Recent image done for a client.

Seeing the last pages makes me really motivated to study again - thank you for that!. I'm so jealous of your linework Y-Y Want to see more! :D ha

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Kimonas - 05-04-2015

Dude your torso sketches are supreme man! And that Recent illustration you did is looking tasty!

If i had one thing to say about your recent image - its to take more risk and try and choose a more interesting perspective. You have it in you with all those study practices. Try and do figures from imagination in perspective - its tough, but you have it in you champ!

Keep up the good work!

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Othrandir - 05-04-2015

AngeliquevdMee - Thank you! You sure will! Agh it makes me feel warm inside when someone says that anything I do motivates them. That by itsself motivates me to do more :D

Kimonas - Thanks for the support bro! Yeah, you're right about having to do more interesting images and to take risks. I still have so many problems with anatomy though. Dynamic scenes are very difficult for me right now. However my next few images will be pretty big and dynamic, so we'll see how I fare with that :D

Kingdom of Heaven screencap study for this post. I had forgotten how much fun screencaps were, but I didn't learn that much. I think I was just copying. I need to focus more for the next ones.

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Eristhe - 05-18-2015

Looks incredible man! good job on varying the composition, has really helped it : D my only crit would be that the highlights in the foreground are looking a bit overexposed? and that the strong highlight on the back of his hip (below his cloak) is a bit distracting compositionally. But still, incredible!

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Othrandir - 05-19-2015

Eristhe - Thank you! I absolutely agree with the crit, I thought of those things myself, but at that point I was like "aah screw it". I should've left it one more day to cool down.

Second painting for the uni project

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Eristhe - 05-19-2015

Ha I know how that feels tbh, it still looks amazing! New painting looks interesting, I might suggest that the occlusion shadow underneath his hands needs to be bigger and softer? Keep up the great work : )

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - RenatoCaria - 05-21-2015

I fell in love with your lines, then i fell in love with that use of color.. is there anything you cant do? O.o btw, Did what did you use for those torso studies? Real life drawing? casts? Whats was it? Spil out your secrets! Aha

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Othrandir - 07-12-2015

Eristhe - Thanks! Hah should'a tried that :)

RenatoCaria - Oh you flatterer, you :D For the torso studies (reffed ones) I used normal pose photos from Proko's sets. Pretty much photos of models :D I just cut out the torsos.

Long time no see! Long time no work... not a lot of commission work either. I'll try to get permission to share what I can with you guys/gals :) For now, here's a small doodle from an hour ago and something I just started.

RE: Othrandir's sketchbook - Zearthus - 07-14-2015

Aw, wish your old images worked so I could see the progression throughout the years. None of the less, first time seeing your sketchbook. I assume, illustration/concept art is what you like to do? Or do you venture into other territories as well, for example, landscapes?

Looking forward to see more of the stuffs you post, and you just got yourself a new follow on deviantart. :)
