Hi there! Just registered. :) - Pixipel - 10-04-2015 Hello everyone! I recently stumbled upon this website when I was searching for "Character Generators" on Google. I came across http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-1063.html and was really impressed by the character generator that Dennis Kutsenko made. I wish I knew how to make one like that myself. So once I found that thread I was curious about a forums named "Crimson Daggers", thinking it was a sort of gaming or RP forums. Then to my pleasant surprise I saw that it was a community for artists. Unfortunately I couldn't find a description or introduction for the site itself, so I'm still a bit clueless to what it really is and it's background, etc. Even with that thought it tempted me enough to want to join it. I'm an aspiring artist, and even though I'm probably a bit older than some of the people here (28 years old) I'd still like to become a professional artist someday and have a career in art. I still have a long ways to go and really need to work on improving my skill, but I'm not going to give up on that goal. I'd love to be a character concept artist, illustrator, children's booth author/illustrator, and... a few other things that interest me, but not sure when any of that is going to happen. For now I'm mostly doing art commissions online and have some of my artwork up at a few local art galleries. For the past few months I've had a pretty bad art/creative block. So I'm hoping by joining the Crimson Blades forums I'll be inspired and motivated to improve and make new artwork. It'd be also great to meet other artists and potentially make some online pals. I have a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet and use Photoshop CC. I'd eventually like to get a Cintiq but those are super expensive, so... >.> We'll see about that. I've only been doing digital art for the past 3 to 4 years or so, which is when I decided I wanted to pursue art as a career. I look forward to getting involved with this community and would be more than happy to talk and discuss art and art related subjects with anyone interested! Also, if there's anything I should know about this community, the forums, what's to be expected of me, etc, please let me know! I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! :) RE: Hi there! Start up a sketchbook, start posting, and visit other people's sketchbooks and offer any advice you see as well, and you will definitely start getting feedback! That's the main thing. If you need anything mod or admin related with the site you can PM smrr, or Dennis Kutsenko. There isn't a huge amount of group threads that active (it's mostly sketchbook stuff) but here are a few goodies: Check out the Velvet Revolvers study group which is pumpin along nicely at the moment: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-6811-post-90269.html The Crimson Chows have been running relatively regulartly (not totally strict, on a two week cycle atm) is getting more love, and the Inktober thread is probably going to get some good participation: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/forum-46.html And lastly I am running a free 8 week long environment design course right now, which is currently in its second week but feel free to check out the demos and jump in catch up / do assignments and post in the threads and follow in on the fun! The class thread: http://crimsondaggers.com/forum/thread-6851.html A site I put up to put it all together neatly for anyone to check out easily: https://sites.google.com/site/edrocks2015/ About the age thing, I totally get the feeling, but it is irrelevant! 28 is not late at all. I started self-teaching at 33, I'm 37 now and just went full-time freelance early this year. Perseverance and faith in yourself is everything. Welcome on board! RE: Hi there! I also just checked out some of your art and you're amazing. I've been wanting to learn how to do landscape and environment artwork. So I'll try to catch up with your course and get started on that. :) Also, thanks for mentioning your age and when you started. Makes me happy to know I'm not alone in that and inspires me to keep going. |
