nutriman's quest for awesomeness - nutriman - 01-23-2016

Alrighty folks, here it goes..welcome to my sketchbook

Wish I had more time for studies but I'll just make the most out of it!

Try to keep it up to date and have it filled with everything from anatomy, rendering, composition, value, color, master studies and perspective to imaginative drawing/ painting.

Tear me apart or gimme props - let's level up together!

I'd be especially glad if you could point me more to systemic errors than to pinpoint individual spots of inaccuracy

Didn't know which brushes to use in the beginning..one can tell. :)

Value Studies:

...aaand some color studies :)

again: Please consider systemic mistakes more than individual inaccuracies.

Thanks for your input!

I'm curious to how you're doing these? Are you colour picking/tracing at all?

They're really good, there is huge strides in quality and your skills are clearly rapidly progressing from these studies alone.

If you are colour picking/tracing, Might I suggest trying to do one completely free hand using only your eye to judge the colour/value/placement?

Hi Gareth,
thanks for the encouraging words!
Of course I do not trace or color pick.

What I do sometimes though is after I decided which color to put down I colorpick afterwards to see how far I was off with my estimate..

Guess I'll put everything together in a new SB Thread - that seems the way to go :)

...try to squeeze in time for drawing.
Lunchbreak Doodles, chewing is overrated, bite'n'swallow..just so I have enough time to whip out two Heads.

Do you guys know the app "French Girls"? I use it all the time for finding selfies.

And today's gestures/ figure studies from photo..

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - nutriman - 02-03-2016

some more awful gestures between 1 and 10min poses...not at all happy with those.
But hey, mileage.

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - ThatDudeIsaGhost - 02-03-2016

Dude,to me your poses looks cool, specially (i take that the more detailed are the 10 min ones) the more detailed ones, you give me the courage to star posting mine, keep going, you're doing great!

Hey man, good stuff here! :) You're clearly working hard. Your value studies look pretty good, you made some progress there for sure. I can't really think of anything useful to say since i don't know much yet about value. I'm looking forward to seeing perspective stuff, I know a bit more about that. :P And imagination, i wanna see your imagination stuff! Draw something just for fun.

Anyway, looking forward to your next post!

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - tripna - 02-05-2016

Those value studies seem really good, have you felt any benefits from those in your imagination works?

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - ZombieChinchilla - 02-05-2016

Your painting skills are KILLER, really really beautiful, great stuff. However I think you gestures are comparatively weaker, and I think focusing on doing stuff from imagination would be a great exercise.

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - nutriman - 02-06-2016

@Tripna:
Havn't done as much imaginative work, but starting soon. I felt I needed to get more fluent first while painting. I don't want to have to think about the process too much.
But seeing Values clearly helped me evaluating pictures and how they are structured - I hope it'll show later in more imaginative works.

@Zombiechinchilla:
Thanks for your honest feedback, I feel so too about my gestures. And I will definetely draw more from imagination, even though (or because?) they suck compared to pictures painted with reference.

Looking forward to reading your crit on these
Great forum I have to say, I thought all the forums were dead but this one seems to be a stronghold!! Cheers guys. :)

I love your still life and portrait paintings you did! The textures and values look great. Maybe you could have your gesture drawing darker... The brush you used is a bit hard to see. I really like how your lines flow though!

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - nutriman - 02-07-2016

Ok folks...drawing from imagination is really tough!!
Calling this "The Mad Maestro"
Just established the main value structure and composition.

Any ideas how to bring this forward or pointers to mistakes are really appreciated

Please tell me what you think regarding any aspects, thank you!!!

RE: nutriman's quest for awesomeness - nutriman - 02-07-2016

Did a 30-45min sketch from life, not very refined but definitely recognizable.
