Patschkas journey - Lapatschka - 07-05-2016 Hello everyone! :) I was always drawing and generally interested in concept art/illustration, but I never really learned the fundamentals or took my progress more serious - so now I'm changing that and start learning the basics, e.g. values, perspective, anatomy.. My dream is to become a Concept Artist similar to H.R. Giger - I want to be able to transfer my ideas for production. I'd love harsh criticism and any tips! Thanks! :) RE: Patschkas journey - Artloader - 07-05-2016 Welcome to the Crimson Daggers Lapatschka! I like the look of your work. I'm working through anatomy and perspective myself at the moment and can recommend the following to you for anatomy: Proko's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClM2LuQ1q5WEc23462tQzBg Andrew Loomis books (the PDFs are in the public domain I believe) Michael Hampton's book: Figure Drawing: Design And Invention Looking forward to more from you :). RE: Patschkas journey - Lapatschka - 07-05-2016 Thank you so much, I'll look them up! :) RE: Patschkas journey - Mechanizoid - 07-05-2016 Hey, Lapatschka, welcome to the crazy art train! :-) You are into Giger, that's cool. Love his stuff. The fundamentals are really important–you are right to focus on those. But don't forget to draw just for fun as well. I recommend you learn a bit of perspective, it will add a lot of 3d goodness to your work! Perspective for Comic Book Artists by David Chelsea is the best book I've found on the subject, and Scott Robertson's Gnomon vid is super awesome. Looking forward to seeing more of your work! RE: Patschkas journey - Lapatschka - 07-05-2016 Thank you so much, Mechanizoid! Your tips are very appreciated :) I'll look into the suggested book and videos. Yes, I absolutely need to learn perspective, I always relied too much on reference or 3D for that. RE: Patschkas journey - Lapatschka - 07-05-2016 Started a new master study and noticing how hard it is for me to see the right values. Will take notes from now on on what I am learning/what I still need to figure out. RE: Patschkas journey - Lapatschka - 08-15-2016 Okay.. havent got any time to draw/practice, just got some beautiful watercolors and decided to try them out, nevertheless still need to begin practice a lot (fundamentals) - just dont know when Ill have time to get serious. RE: Patschkas journey - AlfonsoX - 08-21-2016 xD Love those Gigers. They are like the cute version of Giger. Hilarious mix. If you could render them a bit further they may look really cool. |
