Fedodika the Koala
A real strong value composition in the latest one. It is very loose with those soft brushes but not at the expense of edge control. It's so easy to "over render" stuff sometimes, would be cool to see if the finished piece has these qualities remaining. I know this is kinda subjective but at least for me, my sketches are usually more alive and then I tend to lose that when I focus on rendering.

Adzerak: Hehe thanks my man! Yea the more i draw, i come back to painting with an even deeper perspective. Its seems like all i do when i paint now is just add lots of blurs and big brush strokes, and that tends to appease my eye the most :)

Still kinda sick, gonna try to fix this up tomorrow, got lotsa issues with line weight and how the feet are touching the ground. I think if i get another good sleep i'll be feeling 99% better, so heres to schleep!

well im not totally fuckin aware of how some of my gesture stuff flattens out. This reclining pose, the more shaded one: i had a blast with, totally was focused on it for the ten minutes i drew it for. Kept redrawing the back and the pelvis trying to turn it more to show the form, since the reference had almost a graphic read, was quite interesting. And yea i see how that calve coming out is totally flat by comparison.

Drawing those little wrapping lines really helps show how something is moving in space, I always thought it was a sort of decorative thing, but it could help me "think" more about how to show things turning, which adds so much to a drawing. Also if you have any crits of my piece above on like the pose or something or like maybe something looks weird i'd love to know because those little things can sometimes ruin a whole piece for someone!

The things i have concerns on it are the arm going behind the back, it seems fine in the reference, but i'm wondering if i should push the other one out to hold the skirt, or if it would make any difference. Also if the chick holding the tree, if I should draw some of her hand holding the tree or if that would be too long for her arms to reach behind the other girls head.

just some quickies today, had a lot of people comin at me today for various things... I like the way the bottom right one turned out, i got lucky with some of those interlocking forms. That can really spice up any drawing is giving it that like curved line going into each form to show a kind of "flowing stream" movement between them.

Finished up the leg stuff with rey bustos today, was super interesting. I have a much better idea of like leg muscles and feet and stuff. Just need to analyze some photos of that stuff maybe, i'm rambling lol. more Rey tomorrow!

Rey Bustos you say? gotta check that out!

Those pencil drawings have a niftz flow ~ !

Greg: thx bro, rey keeps anatomy quite engaging with his lively personality, i didn't struggle too much watching his leg stuff, gonna try to get to some more tonight!

I think my figures are veeery slowly getting a more 3d feel since i'm starting them with more coherent simple forms. In the gestures i really like the one on the top right as it really feels like its turning in space. Also starting up a longer bouguereau study to work on several things. I gotta say sketching in all these figures was a lot quicker and less stressful than it usually is since i have a better command of gesture. I'm bout halfway through the line drawing and it'll be a great opportunity to work on comparing proportions/spacing/value heirarchies and of course pretty feet, which is something i have a great interest in :)

oh and this little Bullshit color scribble from this morning lol

TRIGGERED: HEHEHEHE thanks i should do more of those :p

Gregoroman: Thanks m8 some more work on it today!

Probably 4 hrs more into the boug thing; finished the leg ray bustos stuff, i'm probably gonna have to rewatch these occasionally for the next few months to get it to stick in my mind because I'm not quite used to all these latin names. Boug study is fun so far, idk why im so giggly tonight tehehehhehee must be meme magic!

I think i'm gonna do a series soon of like girls with flowers or something, or girls in nature. I find all these inspiring pictures across the nets and I'd just like to paint that subject matter in particular. They'll probably be clad in boug or waterhouse style dresses and have lush colors and forested backgrounds inspired by photos and those two painters alike. Should be a lot of fun and if i use a good ref, i should be able to pull of something without too many proportion issues if i take my time and be careful! They wont be erotic or fantasy like some stuff i've cringefully attempted before, more along the lines of just color and solid composition; simple or pure in presentation. Something consistent looking for a portfolio

nother day o truckin. had a caricature thing today, was worth it overall; uuuh gonna try to get back to the boug tomorrow, also did some more rey bustos, i think i have 3 vids left, the body, the arm and... the face! pretty intense to sit through i'll say that, even at a higher speed taking notes.

I like and dislike these figures; The top right gave me a lot of issues, it was a weird pose where the legs were crossed over eachother and the balance and tilt of the main masses were hard to pick up on. I need to start the bigger drawings smarter and establish the feet first because those ALWAYS help define the rest of the gesture, just like a nose on a portrait. here's to koala truckin :)

KBarr: Hahah thanks i did one just for you, but a fair warning, its scribbly!

Some more studies and stuff, not too happy with most of these, must be learning to see better if that's the case hehe. First one is a scribbly, probably shouldnt do a lot of these come to think of it because i dont learn much from em

aight, so i somehow finished Hustons 7 hr hand video and learned a lot of stuff, i hope lol. All these hands are just me and a photo ref; stylizing and pushing certain elements to show the things huston goes on about like form, shape, flow, structure etc. I was actually surprised how much I retained despite feeling like i wasn't paying enough attention. I'll definitely come back to those videos, theres just such a huge wealth of stuff that's really gold info not only on hands but drawing in general.

Also a few more hrs on the boug; listening to Eckhart Tolle drolle on in the background

couple goofs from today, more ray bustos stuff tomorrow

Also an experiment i did with drawing a bouguereau foot. I did the first one with a very crude line drawing with little care for structure and the second with a slightly more refined, intentionally trying to be boxy and structual, of course the second was better even though i rendered the first one more.

alrighty, so got a nother mentor thing tomorrow, should be interesting... Watching a 4.5 hr demo from Ray Bustos going over old masters anatomy, I need to start applying this stuff to juice up my figure drawings. They are are getting there with the gesture and boxiness, but they are looking a bit tube like and more like maniquins  than figures. Gotta add those little lumps and bumps but i'll say ray is a treat to learn from and its very helpful just to hear these latin names and have them assigned. Will definitely rewatch these vids a lot as time goes on as i wanna really get good as fuck at anatomy so maybe one day i can sketch some things from imagination that are worth a shit

Also started a little thumbnail for a like Athena idea i had; I like the composition but will probably edit the pose a bit to make her not just looking off and have her interacting with the scroll maybe looking apprehensive or wary that the viewer should trust the power contained within. Owls r cool of course, contemplating having the owl facing the viewer or the scroll. Not sure what'd be more appealing; well see!

BLeh, nother mentoring thing today. I need to just stop painting as much as possible and just draw stuff, like heaps of figures and focus on the most basic of basic things. Need to rewatch/read the basic of basic stuff on proportion and gesture and form and everything because so much of my issues are at the very start of the drawing. Apply the shit out of hustons theories over and over until i get it.

I make all these dumb mistakes like stuff is too noodley or too stiff, i need to just draw more and work these kinks out. I see it as I'm doing it and i need to discover the solutions. The stuff from today is from imagination. I tried drawing one gesture from a photo and i did it twice and both tries were very just inconsistent and made me very frustrated.

LOOPEYDOO!

whew, so drew a ton of these just bodies in front back and profile today. bout 90% from imagination, i suppose its an exercise in Sycra's Iterative drawing concept and goodness it really showed me lots of cool things. I noticed this really stupid thing i do when i start an imagination drawing where i go for the most dynamic curve i can think of, which really compromises the quality of my drawings. it caused me to not care about proportions and just try to force the drawing to conform to the sweeping line i had drawn. You dont need a wildly dynamic gesture to make a pleasing drawing, just nice proportions and structure and maybe the slightest hint of a gesture/tilt.

Maybe im just now picking up on the subtlety of a standing pose. tomorrow im gonna draw more of these but try to add the neck and a blank head so i can incorporate that more efficiently. Then down the road keep doing these but adding say legs, or have a day or two where i just draw legs and nail the shape on its own in profile back and front view. Feels like a quite brilliant way to improve because you can keep making attempts at the most rudimentary shape until it looks and feels correct. I finally felt like some of these might actually look "pleasing" if i were to make the line quality better, so i'm looking forward to more of em!
