Did about 5 more studies today of Ruan Jia's more Epic paintings; man they might not look like much but these take anywhere from half an hour to two hours to completely analyze to my satisfaction. It is a great skill booster for me right now however, since now, when I draw from imagination on the computer, everything seems to have a sense of purpose or direction, well, not entirely but, a lot more than it used to.
These application sketches are a lot of fun, though tough to get started. My plan is to kind of develop such a good foundation with composition that I can create cool shapes and ideas without having the slightest plan beforehand. I can kind of look into the clouds if that is the expression of the blobs of paint and pull something out of it. You just can't always have a clever idea, especially if you want to execute this every single day. Feng Zhu will tell ya that.
That's been a big source of stress for me though, is not thinking my ideas are "clever" enough, but in reality, people don't care too much for that, and they are more looking for great execution. yea basically, have my hand do the thinking is the goal here, since well, my brain is tired. It seems the more of these I do, the more I think I should do, that and study Hogarthe fingers and toes, because he's really got some nice shapes on those ;)
