Hey Dawkward, thanks for the critique and i understand what you're getting at; This was a Hogarthe copy and he exaggerates the perspective and forms of things to help you remember things more, here's a very close copy to the original, and hogarthe doesnt seem to use the wedge shape to build this particular hand. He does it with a lot of foreshortened hands so you can see the hand folds and forms.
Hogarthe is criticized a lot of the way he exaggerates, but i've found a lot of value in it over the years for remembering key shapes
