Hey all,
Ok so again with the art improvements. Decided to try out something to take my mind off of over thinking other stuff I'm doing right now. It was suggested to me I try to digitally paint a self portrait. So that's what I did. Apx 14 hours and it wasn't easy.

So I'm playing League of Angels (S39) and my character's name is Rivan, she's a Paladin and I kinda wanted to do some fan art based on that. And no this is not what the character actually looks like in game. Just figured if she was "custom" then she'd look something like this lol. Total apx 10-12 hours including line art and such. Totally drawn from scratch!!
My digital painting is improving in my opinion!! <3

I'm still working on the Necormancer piece, but can't work out what to do with the magic or what she's holding etc etc...

The self portrait turned out really well--you got the colors much more lifelike than the photo, and the teal background was a good choice.
The paladin looks good, too. The eyes are pretty, and the broken horn adds some interest. I prefer the cropped version for the emphasis it places on her face.
Hey Tygerson,
Thank you for the comments, how are you doing?
Thank you for what you said, I'm trying hard to learn and improve and I'm getting there bit by bit I guess :D
And yes as it goes I prefer the cropped version too!!

So I have got involved with a private art study group (SB) along side a friends and each week there's some tasks set which are optional studies and I figured I might as well share the first two weeks worth of what I created from it.
WEEK 1 SB
So week one we were drawing spheres and shading them with values. And also doing some free hand lines.

WEEK 2 SB
Then for week two we were looking at perspective (which I utterly suck at) and it took me far far too long 'cos I'm a bit OCD and also have medical issues. But even so we had to create some perspective boxes. I went a bit crazy and did some free hand stuff and some additional box painting things and then we had to look at buildings / scenery / landscapes and perspective pieces and a final piece in colour looking at all what we've previously covered. So here's how that worked out for me...
Text says: I’m still only learning prospective. I am much better, in my opinion, at vanish point perspective. As seen in purple to the top left of this work sheet. I also did, as requested, the perspective ones using left and right view point - clearly I’m not so good at this. While I do understand it it just doesn’t come as natural/easy to me. I then figured I’d take this further and look at some images of boxes and do a rough work free hand from what I saw working with perspective and perspective lines again. I also added in some free form drawn shapes down the bottom just because I could and finally I did a digital painting of four boxes. Again thinking about perspective. This is something I am working to improve on.
Ok so each thumb took between 1-2hours (total time spent about 5-6 hours). I did use grids because between the OCD part of me and my medical problems I just find it easier to draw this way, hope that's acceptable.

So back where I grew up, The Lincoln Imp was my local.. home of many memories and many friends. Kinda wanted to do a tribute to that and so used it as my perspective piece. Picture of pub is screen shot from google maps. Then my perspective line art and I coloured it well... I wanted to do something different. I will probably one day colour it properly. But I had fun. Line art around 7 hours or so colouring around 3 hours.

Ps. I now have Photoshop CS6 and the only brushes used in the making of this are CS6 basic brush set!

great amount of work , my advice on doing gestures though is to draw them constructively by using some of the basic forms . the human body is composed most by spherical forms like the ribcage , pelvic area etc. cos for me it looks like youre only drawing the contours.
anyway where is this study group can i join in on that?
Hey foxfire,
Thank you for your comment. Yes I have an OCD when it comes to gesture. I've spent too much time drawing like this when I was in college that more looser forms annoys me... and takes me longer to do and I have to think more. I don't generally like doing this, but then I have yet to meet someone that does :P lol. But it's all part of learning and improving :3
Thank you again for your comment, and for checking out my sketchbook here on CD.
And it's a private study group. But I will of course ask if you can join... but can't promise anything!!
Apparently I never posted this finished:

I came here to post up my most recent and do a bit of "journal" updating.

Journal stuff:
It's certainly been a while. I don't have much in the way of excuses. My pen to my wacom tablet broke, I've been building a new pC, I've been gaming a lot, making new friends where I live, medical stuff and plain lazy-ness. To be truthful.
The last few months have been hard, in April I split up with my Fiancé and by May I'm living in a completely new county/city and making a new life for myself... working so hard to improve on things and have a better life for myself. It's becoming a new adventure... and well I'm finding me again.
I do however feel I want too, no, NEED too get back into my art, art improvements. I was doing so well.. in my opinion. And I want to keep on with the learning with the progression and the improvements.
So I thought I'd post here. I did spend all yesterday repainting some lost work, which I happen to still have the lineart for and I've been working hard on that. Today has been taking a lil break to do some research however I hope to continue with it this week. In addition I'm looking to get back into doing studies. So any suggestions would be appreciated.
Anyway.. hello.. how have you all been? xX
Ps. Still looking to make more artistic friends and befriend then on Facebook if anyone's interested?
Impressive amount of work here! You're clearly self-motivated. Kudos and hat off to you. Keep up the good work and keep studying the human form!
Hey meat!!
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I will of course keep trying :D hehe x
