Hey welcome to cd! Nice work ethic, doin some smart stuff too, keep on practicing man :D.
I suck at stills, values, and shaping form. Goddamnit. Do you have any advice guys ?

Also those are my very first two still life ever.
Hey Nastobi, welcome to Crimson Daggers! You've got a nice variety of stuff going on, keep focusing on all those different areas of study! Don't forget to draw for fun too : )

As to shaping form, what I find helps is doodling random curved or straight shapes then adding wrap around lines, centre lines, contour lines etc. to them, then starting to render them out bit by bit; add the shadow area, cast shadow, half tones etc. It helps to develop a feel for how rounded objects sit in space and how the light falls. Then you can try and add another shape onto it.

Like this kind of thing:

You develop a feel for how things curve and move away from you, you can get really creative with it too.

Good luck man!
@JyonnyNovice thanks man :)

Faces week 1

[Image: yRzUPLH.png]

I'd like to get feedback from you folks, thanks in advance. Ill do this everyday, 5 faces everyday.
Hey nastobi123, advice for post #7: it just takes time, I can't remember how many of still life studies I have done in my life, they seem boring but they help alot, try to plan the stages better, at first limit yourself to only 4 shades of grey to get the feel of it, don't be shy of using lasso tool or vector selection for those crisp edges, and if possible try to make still life from real life as you'll notice way more details.
As for the face, are you planning to make a daily 5 from head? I'd suggest trying 5 referenced and 5 from head, or studying loomis books (those are great, last year I copied page to page from his head's book). But keep practicing, that's the only secret.
Wow, thanks Rafa. Good suggestion. Ill definitely try still life for real. I tried it yesterday, with watercolour, first time ever. It sucked but oh well, you always suck at the start.

I have the Bridgman and Loomis book and I copied some of them. Also copied from reference.
Here's for today.

Only one image and study for today. Really tired looking for a job earlier today. IM TIRED !
I have to force myself to do this because I have to commit to my promises.

Liking these face studies, exactly what I was going to suggest as I scrolled down. Well done on applying the contour lines to the referenced studies as well, keep at it and continue to look at how the 3D shapes fit together in the photos. As you get the hang of interpreting the photos and understanding what is going on, try to reconstruct them from imagination more, or better yet, think about them as you draw faces (much more fun). Good start, keep up with the practising!
Thanks for the tips. Yeah, thats what I worry about, actually applying the features on the face because I suck at drawing the skull and then putting it in perspective. Also you're right, I should learn the features before making one from imagination.
Help me out guys ?! There is something wrong with my eye drawings on side view. IDK what it is but it feels like there's something wrong. Thanks in advance.

Yep, but you almost got it right on one of them, the leftmost one on the bottom (which you marked as wrong, haha). But if you're trying to do a trully 100% sideview, you'll squish a lot of the pupil and the iris will almost disappear, but don't forget when you paint the iris to make it hang back, there's a lot of juicy meat between it and the surface, and don't be afraid to ref it man! Here are a few.

I might be on a completely wrong track here, but what I think the problem is that you seem to draw the eyeball as if it would completely fill out the whole eyesocket, though that's not the case. Actually there are a lot of muscles there which make the eye move.. that's how I interpreted this subject from Glenn Vilppu's stuff.. sorta like this:

[attachment=54012]

again, I might be completely off-track here.. awesome anatomy studies BTW!
Wow, its been a very busy week. Sorry if I wasn't able to reply to you guys. But thanks, your replies were very helpful. I also did another Eye and Nose study.

@Rafa - Thanks, I never realized that i should do anatomy studies for the eye. I did some study.
Again thanks.

@Kaffer - I think you're sort of right. Thanks for the time drawing though, it definitely helped.
