RE: Fedodika the Koala - dodeqaa - 08-24-2016

Heyo! Great you're working on it daily. Should post the ref side by side though, its hard to see otherwise :D

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-25-2016

Myname-FE= Hey thanks bro haha, yea I'll post it so you can tear my ass up if ya want haha

Ehhh, Watched the Invitation today; really REALLY good horror film, nothing supernatural in it, talk about a climax too haha, like a whole hour of the movie is just kind of a creepy build up at house party, then it gets BAD lol, super exciting!

Tried same technique as yesterday, just did imagination drawings, uuuh so much to learn and get right lol. Man i need to work on... stuff lol

RaginBronko: Pro? Hmmm, We'll see about that, but you know other people will see it before you do, so maybe you're right idk; i hope you are lol. Glad you enjoyed the journey, that's what these SBS are for!

So i did a funny experiment today and i drew a head from ref right, then tried my best to make it look right in 20 minutes. Then i did 40 head gestures, tried again, then 40 more gestures, then repeat. It makes you look at things very differently. Glad I'm tackling these weak areas, they help alot haha

The first one is just kill me bad, but the other two are so much better i can't remember which one is third or second
Thanks so much Fedodika! I'm here because i preferred to thank on your page! I've looked your jobs before and i like so much! I love that's, it is very artistic! Thanks for cheers and see that there are comments makes me motived! After i read your text about drawing, i drawed and tryed to study more :D
Well, for help you, I think you can study more gestural and let more fluid muscles.
You must know the proko youtube channel, right?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74HR59yFZ7Y
I think these exercises will be good for you,
Sorry any thing and my name is crazy, i love it hahaha thanks again!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-26-2016

Milena: Thanks!! haha yes i like Proko but there was def a time he went overboard with the whole Skelly character; luckily he's toned it down a lot lol.

Yea, you really look like an old friend of mine; Can't find a perfect comparison but, at first i thought you were her then i read your name lol

Soooo ,more boring anatomy stuff, trying to get the muscles and connections stuff to look right, then i'll work more on the gesture and what not... Maybe start actually designing haha

RE: Fedodika the Koala - dodeqaa - 08-26-2016

Heh, nah none of that. Just curious what the reference looked like.

Lots of squiggly meandering lines! I feel the movement of the lines more than the subject themselves, the figures look pretty arbitrary compared to the wild energetic lines.

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-27-2016

Me-FE=Hehe, well i had no idea you found those scribblies interesting, maybe I'll try to incorperate that more :) thankies

Well i gotta stuff today, i need to get better at everything lol, def more life paintings in quick bursts they make me ask myself a lot of difficult questions about perspective

RE: Fedodika the Koala - dodeqaa - 08-27-2016

Oh definitely,

Them line are very beautiful, they feel disconnected from the subjects they represent though, like the lines are the star of the show and the subjects some awkward supporting cast.

I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but thats how it feels anyhow. Keep learning!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-28-2016

Be-FE=me: hahah thanks i guess, tried to make the stuff less awkward today :)

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Jun - 08-28-2016

Hey Koala :) Been watching this thread for some time now.
Liking the digital studies and stuff!

I will also add another log to the fire here, though.

Sketchy lines.

Why do you do them? Do you use them as a filler?
I know I did. I did sketchy random lines because I didn't KNOW what I was supposed to draw there. Maybe it'll help learning those parts and then slowly drawing them after observing, drawing, observing.

I agree with dodeq that these lines really don't add anything - They're like filler. Fluff!
I think it might benefit, especially for anatomy studies, to -

go SLOW
to THINK about WHAT you are drawing, WHY you are drawing them that way
to FOCUS on what you're doing
Emphasize quality over quantity

instead of focusing on these scratchy lines, music, or something else. You could be thinking more instead of wasting time with random lines!

Don't just copy, THINK! That is the point of studies to me, at least.

A lot of your faces look very similar. Formulaic? Maybe. Maybe you need to draw more faces, draw them in different angles, extreme angles, weird angles. Experiment with proportions, sizes, forms, angles, distances but be mindful of what you're doing, instead of just doing it.
Maybe learning how the human skull works, how the bones are placed, how the muscles are placed and work below the skin will also help.
THINK! I cannot emphasize the thinking part enough. It's very easy to let the hand control the drawing instead of the brain. That is still practice, but I think it's not good enough, especially if you're trying to learn something.

Also what I've noticed is a lot of your figures look like plastic models, they lack gesture and flow!

Sorry if I'm wrong - but these are some of my thoughts. I'd love if someone more experienced would correct me if I'm wrong!

Looking forward to more! Good luck :)

Heyo,
thats not what I meant, Im saying I find the lines more interesting and lively than the figures, I don't know how they're supposed to work together; but I guess thats a question Fedo needs to answer not me hehe.
They add alot of things and they are certaintly not fluff, but I can't see all the things working together in harmony, which may or may not account for why the figures feel so awkward to me.

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-29-2016

Me-Fe & Jun: I think you guys are wanting more gestures since a lot of my recent stuff is me just trying to get it right in the regular perspectives, and figuring out anatomy. I wasn't focused on making S or C curves, straight lines, and was focusing on studying anatomy. Since it's getting to be a common mention, I'll throw in some regular gesture based stuff along with the other things.

So i went and tried Forrest Imel/ Alex Negrea's studying technique and yea, gonna stick with it; I can def see it improvin me faster, keep critin the shit outt me guys :) Let out your frustrations on me, i can handle it ;)))

Good studying process if you can make the gains!

Also, not sure I agree about the gestures thing, still feels kinda weird. Dont put too much weight in that though its just my reaction towards it, probably its just not my poison having those energy lines running wild over figures and heads.

Keep truckin!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-30-2016

Me-Fe: Haha thx <3 Paintovers are cool! Smrrfeeteedoo my luv did one a while back, was super helpful! I'll figure it out eventually, but even when I do, not everyone's gonna like it ;)

More stuff, focusing on quality over quantity; Did the still life without lines and was actually a lot less frustrating and was more enjoyable for some reason who knows!

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Amit Dutta - 08-30-2016

I left you a crit on the painted face on fb. I agree with the other comments about how scribbly and random some of your non-form based lines appear. I don't think it looks good and I don't think it is a subjective thing. It looks amateurish, lazy, rushed and poorly-or-not-thought out. The most recent pencil sketch of the dude is way better and that shit is toned down, so I would go towards that way a bit more.

So not scribbling doesn't mean you can't have some dynamic stuff going on with your strokes, but yeah, WHY? is the question you want to have the answer to. When I ask that question of why with the scribbles, no positive answer comes up.

Check out this board of Toppi stuff I gathered. Look at how he uses lines in very dynamic non-standard and beautiful ways, but how they always help us understand the form as well. https://nz.pinterest.com/m0nkeybread/art-nuthin-but-toppi/

I disagree about going back to more gestures. I think that will just support this careless speed drawing thing you have going (how long do those face sketches actually take?) and I think you should move away for a bit from anything that focuses on speed over care. Slow the fuck down! Many people have commented on how rushed everything looks, and while you are improving a little in some instances for the most part they still do so don't keep ignoring people on the comments about slowing down!
You have problems with form construction and perspective which are way more fundamental so focus on those more.
If you can draw any form in any perspective that's the big winner, it isn't really that hard to make something that flows and is dynamic.
Nice studies of the skulls btw. I like the lighting and perspective and form...still think you could spend a bit more time tofinish these properly since you are going most of the way to pulling off realism.

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 08-31-2016

Amit: I can always count on the quality Ass Blastings from old Amit... But hey dude, don't ever think I'm gonna take it personally. I realized a couple weeks ago when is started posting daily that the quicker i can get through the long ugly ass crits, the better. Much gratitude bro, or sir, should i say. It feels weird callin you bro, because you're kind of like a wise Uncle of fatherly figure around here IMO

I tried (KEYWORD TRIED) to do the things you suggested; Mind you or everyone, I'm not gonna get all this stuff down right off the bat, and trust me, I can see it too; especially in these pencil sketches. I just have to train the bad habits out of me, which sucks, because I feel like I've wasted a TON of time developing them, but hey, what can ya do right

It's SOOOO hard to get this structure stuff right, holy crap, i mean FUCK, so many little measurements and things getting skewed and something being slightly wrong throwing everything else off, ggeezz

PS still workin on that skull, will probably post progress on it tomorrow, and gonna try to do a few more pencil sketches that use erasing and involve me trying to place things right instead of scribbles

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 09-01-2016

Didn't get much done today, had to go to town and stuff...

Was checkin out Othermuzz Sketchbook and well... I think you should just stop reading this and the same :)

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Fedodika - 09-03-2016

I'll admit the study has some wonky perspective, but i liked the way the line drawing turned out, considering I didn't scribble everywhere haha

RE: Fedodika the Koala - Amit Dutta - 09-03-2016

Glad you can take a blasting. A quick notice, generally speaking, your ears need to be re-studied in terms of the form shapes and size as they are still looking a bit too "symbolic" I like the tighter sketches of the women's face #579..that's heading somewhere better, except for the ears :)

RE: Fedodika the Koala - RickRichards - 09-03-2016

Hey Fedodika, seeing that you´re working on the anatomy and i´m seeing fruit. Amit pretty much nailed the issue so it´s rendundant that i would say something.
I cannot bypass a soul calibur work haha.
Even though it´s just a study it was solid. I did a paintover not because it´s bad but because it´s good and i´ve done just a few tweaks to point a possible enhancement to that image but also to others; - Ivy´s head is smaller due the foreshortening, the ref piece has a bit more saturation and light. Explore a little bit more the hue, and saturation, a few specs here and there to gain life and momentum.

Just my two cents.
Keep the good work
