Llamallove's sketchbook - Llamallove - 05-18-2025

Idk what to put as my first post in the thread so I'll just post what I was working on today, which was some robot designs for a possible dnd character.

Nice to see a new face ^^
The ideas look real fun, love the bottom left guy pulls the robot mage XD

Very nice! I like all the concepts, very well drawn! Are you planning on developing it for a full painting?

I made this character design with the design prompt "Swordsman from the sky" today. Pretty proud of how it turned out :)

Thanks! Im gonna work on the robot designs more, yeah, and probably turn whatever I end up with into a painting. I still have some more designing on it first though.

Cool designs up top! Design is something I find very challenging but it seems to come quite natural for you. Will you develop any of them further?

Good shapes! Some of the concepts, especially the top middle one, remind me of Android Arts' work, don't know if you're familiar. Cool stuff.

Working more on some more variations of the robot designs

RE: Llamallove's sketchbook - Maxilla - 05-23-2025

Cool to see them being taken further hehe. Personally I really like the proportions of the wizard/witch robot on the top, 3rd from the left! As for fundamentals like you mentioned in your introduction post, a forum like this is probably your best bet or if there's some good discord channel im unaware of. Gaining any type of valuable critique from bigger social medias such as twitter, instagram or facebook simply will not happen, so the old forum style websites reigns supreme!

Just keep drawing and posting and push yourself. Work on things like gesture (something that I feel is slightly lacking in the final robot you posted (although I think focus was put mostly on design) but he doesn't feel very grounded yet. Work on other things like thumbnailing in 2-3 values and that kind of design as well. A lot of these robots have pretty nice silhouettes already but working just a value rather than lines is a different and more "instant" way of communicating a design idea.

Fun to have you here :) Keep going

Thanks for the advice! I agree with everything you said, and am probably gonna combine some elements i like about the bottom right wizard bot with the more impactful silhouette from the top 3rd from the left wizard bot. Also yeah, I'm really enjoying posting here so far! It's chill but focused, which I cant say about anywhere else I've been on the internet.

Ok I've narrowed the designs down a good amount, and I think I'm in a good place with them. #1 is my most recent design for this, and I think it has the best mix of everything I'm trying to get. now I just need to figure out the detail's, and I can start working on the full illustration. LMK if theres anything you think I should change/add. Also, I'm thinking of joining the Crimson Chow thing, so I might not be able to work on the robot for a lil while.

Dude these are so cool

Agreed im enjoying your robot mages No.1 is looking great

RE: Llamallove's sketchbook - Llamallove - 05-26-2025

Didn't have time to work on actual design stuff this weekend so I did some limited value light practice with a cool calligraphy brush. One of them are referenced, the rest are just me making stuff up.

You could add a bit of asymmetry to improve the poses — everything is very symmetrical, which creates a rigid look. Regarding the design, try to avoid repeating angles and sizes.
