mech is super awesome the only issue id have is that for mech designs if the details have wonky perspective it breaks up the big forms but the big forms are alot better.
bg also kinda feels like and afterthought not saying that is bad just saying that it feels that youre trying to hide a lack of understanding.
i dont mind the use of photos for details but i think it conflicts with the painterly approach, id say keep at it, you can always take it to the finnish line and assess then, its still gonna serve as a benchmark and a fine portfolio piece
edit: checked with perspective and the part with the most issues is the torso, even the big form is a bit skewed, if you can plot the floor plane on where the mech is standing you can make a square upwards and check with that, id say make a quick design sheet and a simple turn around and use that as a guide to fix if you so desire
