corey: wow thanks for the crit man! that last piece really made me realize i'm not the best at setting up compositions and i'm only now starting to notice shapes and stuff in paintings. So today i started doing studies without lines initially and just started looking at shapes and values. I also am enjoying applying my anatomy studies to like a girl sketch and try to arrange simple values. And i really appreciate the kind words, they really warmed my heart and were very encouraging today!
So today i tried just painting without lines and tried to use less brushstrokes, kinda like Mike Azevedo. This painting style is so fun i worry if i do it too much i won't get any better haha. I learned a few tricks though, and i'll share one with you, it is in the first study. To make like a base for colorful rocks or a texture, do an underpainting of two complimentary colors, i used a red and navy color. Then take the lasso tool and kind of scratch it over it, as this makes little scratches/pebbles of selections, but hold shift while you do it! Then use like color adjustment or correct colors and play around with the hues and values and you'll easily get this effect of rainbow rocks hehe; i only rendered like 2 of em, but it's a cool trick!
