Hi there, is great connecting with you all!

I don't really remember where exactly I learned about the Crimson Dagger Forums, but I saw some users that were from the old CGTalk Forums, that's probably where it came from... I don't know.

The truth is that I always wanted to be an artist, but life got in the way and I became an Accountant, then a Programmer and soon I'll be a Data Scientist without ever being able to become a true artist.

My desire to become capable of translating my ideas into drawings came from early childhood. I had a grandfather who was some sort of genius, a self-taught artist who could draw awesome stuff from imagination during times when references weren't easily available as they are nowadays. It's a shame that we didn't kept a single one of his works, he made it look like it was easy, but after many attempts from my side, I know what he did was different. There was no construction whatsoever, it was pure delineation, and trying to mimic the way he did it cost me a long time and caused a lot of frustration...

Then came the color-blindness diagnosis, it was one of or THE final blow to my dream of ever becoming an artist, that means I would never be able to communicate my feelings to an audience trough colors, because I'm simply unable to see the same colors as them. That's kind of true, but there's studies that says that different people see different colors, depending whether you have a word for such color or not, if you're male or female, if your mental health is in good state or even if you've been blessed with Tetrachromacy...

Now all creative professionals are facing the absurdity of AI, and I'm sure the artist community have been hit hard, but I wasn't following, all I remember was the protest on ArtStation with all artists posting the same image of "No image" or something like that on ArtStation... I personally don't care if a machine is going to steal my work, I'm so rusty that I'll have to start it over, and for a while it should probably suck real bad, probably I'll make the models worse.

In fact, what the f* happened?
I stopped studying CG to focus on my career as a programmer (I changed careers around 2018), and many artist communities simply disappeared, I feel like a homeless person now...

Well, at least this time I'm able to properly communicate, I hope I can make some friends while getting better as an artist, that's all that there is for me at this point and for a change, this time it seems enough.

I found Crimson Dagger while looking for some smaller art communities and thought it looked like a cool place to hang out.
I'm mostly into original creatures, monsters, character designs, and worldbuilding. I love darker fantasy, psychological themes, horror, and anything from little to wildly weird or unsettling. I also do a fair bit of story concept writing, so a lot of my art ends up tied into stories or in original worlds. I enjoy art and do commissions as a free lancer artist!

I've been drawing for awhile, posting online since the internet was invented. Mainly a horror illustrator, but between working full time as a designer and being a mom, I don't have as much time as I would like to draw. I mainly draw my son but right now I'm working on a comic series. I want to post one comic every week in 2027... or 2028 depending on what I can get done lol

I'm really glad this type of forum is still around. I used to post a little on Epilogue and lurk on Concept Art and it's a shame so much knowledge was lost. I did a search recently for a similar forum and was directed here.

Some background on me: I studied illustration but never finished art school. I mostly paint things for myself but occasionally get a commission. I've been painting a lot of portraits but I'd like to do more original illustrations. It's a struggle to put my own stuff together though. I think I should start a sketchbook thread.

hello I'm fujinos_alt!!!! (lol) I stumbled on this forum and thought it was really interesting! I never really engaged in these kinds of online art spaces before (cuz I was too young lol) but I rlly wanna give it a try :D

I'm a first year animation student rn and social media like instagram got a little too nerve wracking to post so casually on, so I figured this would be a decent kind of alternative? Idk art school just makes ur relationship with art and sharing art weird so here I am lol.

as for my interests!! I'm really into chainsaw man!! And I'm a big fan of fujimoto's work as a whole!! I also just really like shonen in general, and I've liked drawing characters for most of my life but I've taken a recent interest in background art too! I wanna try getting better at comics and writing but I always end up making comics about sad things and It's kind of embarrassing for my school peers to see all that soooo maybe I'll post some here!!

Hello! I stumbled upon this place through a wonderful recommendation. I've missed real internet forums so much over the years! I used to be active on YugiohCardMaker Forum decades ago and a few others. I was really into making forum signatures lol. But yes I love real forums! There's just something less corporate and artificial about them. More human. It's a shame they were replaced by social media for the most part, but they'll never get popular again if people don't join them, so here I am!

I've been drawing very casually for a few years, but very inconsistently. A few months ago I decided I wanted to take things more seriously. I've joined a mentorship under Mike086 where I feel a little in over my head hahaha. I'm not as experienced or skilled as most people here. I think that's probably a good thing. I believe throwing yourself head-first into the deep-end is one of the best ways to learn yknow? People learn foreign languages better by moving to a foreign country than they do by using duolingo, right?

Anyway, my main obsessions right now are Naka's March Hotel, Gorillaz, Slay the Spire 2, Northernlion and Drawfee, lol. Nice to meet you :)

Also! I see the sketchbook section and would like to make one, are they just threads where I can post my daily work and sketches? Or should I resist the urge to post literally *everything* I work on LOL?

Hello everyone! I'm an artist in the Philippines trying to get into concept art for games/anime. It has been 3 years since I last been consistent with drawing. Right now I decided to make this account as a way to get rid of rust, and stay consistent with community feedback. Here are some of my current art goals:

- Get rid of art rust and continue being consistent with art practice
-Create appealing environment designs
-Creating good storyboards
- Create appealing characters
- Getting used to 3D modeling (Blender, Zbrush, Maya)
- Be able to get my first paid art commission.

Other than that I also have some personal projects that I wish to attempt in the future.
Here is a sample of my old artwork back in 2021. I hope I get to meet other artists in this platform and share each other's interests, feedback, and maybe collabs (who knows).

First of all, I think it's super cool that this still exists as It's still somewhat active, definitely better than most of the popular social media today, a breath of fresh air... or old air? lol

Anyway, I'm mainly fantasy artist! My forte is 2D digital painting, but I'm also working on becoming a somewhat okay 3D artist too. I really enjoy experimenting and trying new techniques/concepts so that's probably what I'll be posting about in the future.

Current artist goals right now would be to:
✦ Be able paint better environments. (bonus with characters)
✦ Create better concepts in general.
✦ Get better at stylisation.
✦ Make more appealing 3D models and trying new techniques when it comes to the 3D creation (using substance painter more often would be nice)
✦ OPTIONAL: get better with VFX.

Another goal of mine to also talk to more people if I get the opportunity, so any communication is very appreciated!

hello!! i'm excited to be here!!!
i'm a visual communications design student in university right now with a focus on characterdesign and illustration:) i'm canadian .///.
I work at a quilt store too! i love fibre arts and historical garments!! i've been trying to figure out a way to incorporate historical influencesinto my wardrobe :) i also make fursuits :)

my other interests include nuclear power disasters, late soviet era, borderlands , super paper mario, and minecraft :3 they come up in a lot of my work!

my current art goals::: draw more environments (and specifically characters In environments!), and being more careful with my wrist since I have carpal tunnel syndrome

i also have very bad social anxiety so i'm hoping the small community will help me make some friends or at least talk to some people... I've been trying to reach out to the world but everywhere is so scary

Hello everyone!! I'm Caroh, I'm 17 year old venezuelan and I make digital art as a hobby, my work has recently focused on fanart but I want to re-focus my work on personal work and character design, as well as practicing more real life people portraits and my anatomy, my workflow tends to be really slow as well so I want to learn how to fix that. I found about this website when looking for an alternative to the common social media, and after reading some of the threads posted I decided to join!!

In regards of my interests I'd say I'm a huge fan of older technology and consoles, as well as older websites and videogames, I'm interested in comics (more specifically in its physical form!) and wish on making my own or working on comics illustration, I also love children's books and want to start out my profesional art career illustrating childrens books! My current favorite artists are Jamie Hewlett, Evan Dorkin, Masamune Shirow and Frans Hals.

I joined this forum because I'm struggling to find a place that suits my art. My art often have messages I put, like my struggles, vivid dreams, and mental health.

I'm inspired by the Baroque and Renaissance paintings a lot. I love to learn about any paintings from that era!! They always have a messages or meanings to them, which to me making art more interesting.

I'm a hobbyist that's been looking for a place to discuss art a bit more seriously. Twitter has the people but I hate the word count limit, blogging has the word count but very few people around, so I've arrived here! It seems nice. I really hope to talk alot here.

I've gained a strong interest in art again after working slowly with few ideas for quite a long time now. I'm interesting primarily in watercolor and am working on a comic, but I'm also interested in tons of other mediums and have worked with acrylic, oil, and digital. For a long time, my main interest was black and white ink drawings, but I've now gained an interest in working with color.

Here is a recent acrylic painting done using a photo reference and recent watercolor painting I've done as examples of my work.
