I started studying drawings 7 months ago, but I never had total confidence in what I was studying, not knowing which course to take, I currently feel lost in anatomy, drawing is complicated because it is not the same as school, you do not have teachers telling you what to do, you kind of have to go it on your own, I think every day I think about giving up, but I can not, it's something I really want, so I always try to find some solution, but I always face the wall, has anyone ever had it? I do not know which course to take, would anyone have a study plan like that? a guideline or a tip, if I had I would be grateful, in my instagram I put my drawings a few months ago when I started to draw

Hello allll.

So, often times I find myself working on a piece in the late evening and wishing I had someone to exchange critiques/general art babble with since I don't have any artist friends that I can prod with these sort of things. I'd like to maybe do studies (material, still life) most evenings, as well as focus on creating a portfolio piece each month. Apart from that, I would also simply enjoy having a hub to chitchat with my fellow artists.

Study Nights can be decided upon everyone's availability time. I'm free most evenings from 7pm to 2am Central time. Yessss, I am a major night owl.

We could use either Skype's screenshare or google hangouts for our purposes.

A skype group chat would be a nice start, I feel! Let me know if this would interest anyone and I'll set one up.

Of course, the group isn't limited to just studies and working on portfolios, there's some fun things we can do like Drawful.

Drawing Through Together!

Lets develop some super solid fundamentals TOGETHER!

I’m currently working a lot on my fundamentals and recently I listened to one of Fengs Podcasts and it reassured me how important learning the fundamentals really is. And from my point of view one of the most important skills is drawing through and getting some significant mileage in different subject matters. So I thought we could do this together!

I plan on doing a lot of DTs in different subject matters over the next weeks, like cars, old cars, planes, insects, trains and so on. I think it’d be really good and motivational to do this together. We could talk about techniques, approaches, give feedback and overall have a great time. Especially since fundamentals are really boring and repetitive after some time I think getting a little group together will help a lot to retain motivation over the various weeks.

So I think this is the right place for everyone who would like to develop some FZD like fundamentals but struggles with motivation in long term. I think together we can do it! And in the end, we all have some super sick fundamentals! Sounds great, right? ?

I’ll just let this thread stand here and it will function as sort of a hub for all the stuff we are doing! Lets do this together!

I’ll start off with posting my first ever digital draw through. For me it did cost me a lot of time to get used to the process since I so rarely work digital at the moment. I really struggled with getting all the proportions down and after some really bad attempts I decided to work out and simplify the sideview first and the measure and construct from there on.

I found that working with 3 basic layers like Proportions - Geometry - Linework works best for me, one step at a time. And yea, thats it for the first post. Let me know if you would like to come around!

2016 Daily as Possible Group Sketchbook

Edit: The purpose of this thread has been changed to a group sketchbook for posting any kind of art into. Still try to draw at least an hour a day!
This is a thread to post studies and art practice work into. Together lets make a habit to practice at minimum 1 hour a day.
The only rule for posts is that it must be art done as study, practice, from a course or a book, etc. Try to push out of your comfort zone.
Time to make a ton of art gains in this new year!!

Ka-Pow!! is a comic study group, where we will be focusing on telling stories through paneled, sequential drawings and paintings. It's open for everyone and anyone to join, and will serve the purpose of being able to focus on sequential art of all kinds and getting feedback for it. Try to contribute if you plan on posting your work for critique, and trying to give back twice what you receive to make the group active and helpful.

As of right now the focus of the group is to post any comic work you are doing and receive and give feedback, however if we want to do anything like challenges or specific studies we could, so feel free to post any suggestions.

The mission of this group is going to be to try to become the 'professionals' making machine, this whole forum was on its heyday, by following the original mentality of the Crimson Daggers of working super hard, I believe we can achieve this.

The Ancient Empire

Hello everyone .

Now you all might be wondering ... WHAT is this ? Quite simple , its a world , a old world from my past .

This world is under attack by a threat of overwhelming numbers , incredible machines of war and a kids fantasy . This was my world during my years of school and ive been wanting to bring it back .
This world was created in the back of notebooks , battle after battle , design after design this world kidna came together . But its not a overly varied world , truth be told th eonly developed thign in it is the
empire thats attacking relentlessly . So i figured WHY not have others fight them !?! And help flesh out this world with their creations .

What i hope to achieve with this thread is very simple . My guys from my past are comeing to this galaxy to take everythign over and wage war .And THIS is my motivation to keep drawing something everyday , just like i did when i was in school.
The universe except for them is underdeveloped and they are REALLY OverPowerd . Which is why i need YOUR help to fill up the space to fight them .

The basic rules are :

Your free to develop anything that's your own BUT you dont need to stick to it , every pic/sketch you do can be a diffrent race/faction/scene whatever .

Dont make something that seems like it could end the war ''thing'' so nothing thats fully unkillable , my guys have endless numbers but it is possible to fight em as a united front .

Have fun - You dont need to worry about polishing your stuff up or much you can post anythign from a 30 min sketch to a speedpaint

So lemme start the invasion shall we : )

After a millenia of makeing sure that their empire is secure from rebellions and usurpers the old empire set its sights on neighboring galaxies and sought to bring their rule over them as well.

First objective , find the largest planet along the edge of the galaxy and convert it into a War World .

War Worlds , uncounqerable industrial worlds with factories going down to near the core of the planet , with no natural resoruces left by the end of transformation resoruces from other worlds are brought to to these worlds for maximum production , being able to produce countless ammounts of weapons ,ships , vehicles and troopers within small ammounts of time and the poisiounous polluted air , make these planets nigh impossible to conquer or fully destroy .

Once the war gets in full swing the planets nearest to the initial insertion point are usually left overwhelmed and shocked by the brutality of the attacks , preffering to clense most planets and let only select few worlds live as ''trophy '' worlds , for an empire wouldnt be a empire withouth anything in it .

Due to their countless numbers no stone is left unturned when searching for enemies to fight . As entier cities are fully checked within a day or two if no fighting breaks out .

The Grunt Drone

Now you wouldnt think it on first glance but the lowly grunt does not have a mind of its own . They are merely clone bred creatures designed to do one thing and one thing only , obey orders from their master the Emperor as they have a hive mind which only he and special few others can control or tap into . They are mindless , obedient and are easy to breed and fierce to fight .
Designed in a sort of backwards fashion they can survive in most any enviroment except for clean air . As their bodies have been designed to adapt to toxins , chemicals even no air at all . It has made their bodies vulnerable to clean air. Their survival rate for a individual on the battlefield isnt great deploying the numbers over everything card they suffocate the enemy in their numbers , the average survival rate being very low once hitting the battlefield . If one dies 10 take its place . They are also a toxic problem on a battlefield as the more helmets get broken the more toxins they release into the air .
If seperated from the hive mind for any reason whatsoever , the grunts go into a frenzy and start attacking everything but each other visciously .If you see a large dark and grey blob moveing across a battlefield , it is most likely a army of grunt drones chargeing in for the attack .

WELCOME TO THE CRIMSON CADAVERS!

This is a group for the in-depth study of the human figure and its anatomy. We (The Crimson Cadavers) focus on Écorché drawings. For those not familiar, an Écorché drawing is an anatomical representation of all or part of a human or animal body with the skin removed so as to display the musculature.

Écorché studies began taking place during the renaissance when Pope Boniface VIII lifted the ban on human dissection. Many artists took up the practice and even preformed several of the dissections themselves. I'm sure you're all familiar with the the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci, describing the ins and outs of the human figure in great detail. While there where dissections and écorché studies done in ancient Greece, the renaissance was when artists first got to have a good look at our anatomy and record it.

Today, we don't have to worry about preforming dissections ourselves. All the dirty-work has already been done and we can have easy access to hundreds of years of accumulated knowledge on the subject. Some of this knowledge will be featured in our ever-growing resource section.

This group is meant to be a place for sharing our work, getting critiques and advice, and also a resource for any student interested in the subject. The group is open for all that share this interest. We hope you make anatomy a studying habit and use this group as an extension of your personal sketchbook. Think of it as an off-branch where you can more easily get feedback on this one subject.

There will be changes made to the group as time goes on and we will also implement new features like a google hangout, livestream, skype group, challenges and our own anatomy workshops/tutorials. We may also feature members that put a lot of effort into their studies and contribute to the group, giving their sketchbook, portfolio and stream some well deserved attention.

Composition-A-Day sketchbook

Got this idea from the book "Mastering composition" by Roberts, Ian. He suggested to do a small thumb sketch a day focusing on studying composition of objects arranged in space (from life). He promised it will improve composition skills. We shall see... The topic of composition came up between Lyraina and I one day, and since we both have a new MoleSkine book, we decided to make it a composition-a-day sketchbook.

Anyone else feel like joining? The more the merrier! I'd suggest pick a physical sketchbook, or staple A4 printing paper together to make a sketchbook so you have a finite beginning and ending for this. Or set a number before you start digitally.

The goal is to do 1 page per day, and either 1 or 2 boxed-in sketch of real life objects, cropped to look like nice composition to ourselves. We don't use the back of the page because the paper's too thin. Also, this makes the book finish faster, and in turn, we'll feel better :P The sketch does not need details or complicated shading.

Use viewfinder if need, or the all-purpose fingers for cropping view if needed!

I'm working on two projects at the moment. One is about learning the illustration process and the other is learning how to oil paint and use color.
I'm at the idea generation phase with the illustration project.
So far I've done:

character designs
thumbnail comps
and poses

next up is studies during the weekdays

For learning to oil paint I'm doing a plein air painting. So far I did: the drawing and the underpainting

I'm working on the first layer this weekend
