Hey guys!

Ihor Pasternak started this group a few years ago, and it's been instrumental in pushing my work many levels (as has CD). Getting honest, considerate and thoughtful critiques, paintovers, idea suggestions and some funny banter has really motivated me when I felt alone and unsure. Doing art at a computer is a pretty lonely game sometimes!

So, as is the way of Skype groups, the number of active participants has dropped.

We're looking for new people to join. This group has always been open for anyone, at any level, who wants to support and be supported by others working towards similar goals. No post ever goes unnoticed, if critique is asked for, it is always given! We just ask that you give as much as you receive, but there is no obligation to respond quickly - we are pretty casual, since making art is everyone's individual goal, that takes priority of course!

Reply here or send me a message, or contact me on Skype: 'jyonnynovice' and I will add you!

So I'm curious to see who here has an interest in comic work, sequential art, comic strips, graphic novels, whatever you wish to call it. We could take this in any direction you guys want, to try to do a comic daily, or to develop ideas for a big story, pages for a webcomic, comic challenges, etc.

I've had a big interest in comics in the past few years and have done a few small ones, and I'm currently planning on making a big webcomic that is looking to be 100+ pages (so far), plus I'd like to challenge myself to do more small comics, each 1-2 pages.

So would anyone like to join me? It doesn't have to be intensive, it could be super casual, as long as we inspire and help each other.

If some of you peeps are looking for fellow artists to help inspire and shoot the shit with, we may have the hangout you're after.

We've built up a pretty decent skype/google hangout group from the daggers forum, full of all kinds of people with mixed abilities, backgrounds etc. Its a pretty casual affair, not a study group exactly but somewhere to find a bit of conversation and a screen-share or two.

EDIT: Sorry guys, things have changed and the group fractured a while back! We all have our own things going on, but I'm still loosely in touch with a few guys. I'd personally advise checking out twitch creative, some good stuff happening there. Peace out!

Okay daggers, lets analyze the odd habit of humans to wrap themselves in fabric.

I never really cared about fashion. My wardrobe is a mess of poorly fitting clothes in glaring colors and mis-matching styles. I have a hard time to come up with costume ideas for character designs I am making (like, what style would fit the character? And type of clothing belongs to that style?). Even when trying to draw the most generic clothing, it shows that my visual library practically non-existent in this regard (I don't know where any of the seams should go, etc.).

Time to improve!

Are you in a similar situation? Then join me on my journey: Lets study fashion together!

This group is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. You don't have to commit yourself to a particular amount of regular work. The only prerequisite is that you want to learn more about how clothes work.

Sample assignments I am thinking about*:

Study a style (either historic or current): research example of that style, make studies, then emulate it and create your own designs in that style.

Learn the basic principles (I don't know these yet myself, but I figure there must be some basic rules governed by practicality on where to put seams etc.)

Taxonomy (e.g. what's the difference between a jeans and a chino?)

History and variants of a particular piece (e.g. how did the tie develop?)

Colors and patterns
After discussing with meat, and listening to some videos on the youtubes, I felt the strong need to have a group on hangouts or skype while I practice.
You know, just someone to chat with/offer advice whatever, so this practicing and study thing we are doing isn't so lonely.
Right now I just really would like to hear from people in an eastern time zone, or anyone that is such an earlybird/nightowl that they could connect often with people in that eastern time zone. I'm in ATL, GA United States for reference.
I'd like to do hangouts, and skype to communicate. As far as practice themes, well we can figure that out more as we go with more members.

Hey all,

After discussing with meat, and listening to some videos on the youtubes, I felt the strong need to have a group on hangouts or skype while I practice.

You know, just someone to chat with/offer advice whatever, so this practicing and study thing we are doing isn't so lonely.

Right now I just really would like to hear from people in an eastern time zone, or anyone that is such an earlybird/nightowl that they could connect often with people in that eastern time zone. I'm in ATL, GA United States for reference.

I'm an Industrial Designer trying to get better at concept art and art in general

I'm looking for people to share experiences, learn and improve our art skills. I'd prefer if everyone was at a close level to each other (intermediate to advanced) and I won't take age into account.

It would be really great if this could be a long term thing as I'm really interested in building the kind of trust circle relationship where we can really value each others critiques.

I take critiques very seriously and I want to be critiqued ruthlessly , so no egos allowed at all.

I'd prefer people that are already in the industry or take the goal to be very seriously.

My timezone is GMT+1 and I'm in Portugal. We'll figure out what works better for us but either skype or a google hangout or whatever.

Come on Y'all! Let's get better together!
