I would like to make a test if it is possible at all to earn money with Drawing.
I would assume that it is a reasonable thing to try to earn 100$.

Can you give any advice, tipps, resources, roadmaps how to do that?
Is it possible (general and nowadays)?

What do you think how many people have any demand for drawings made by someone else?
If I imagine asking people in real life, I would assume nobody would like to pay money for that ever!

Let us say someone lives in a town with 100.000 people.
What do you think how many people need Illustrations/Concept Art and alike, and how often per year?
If somebody needed some Drawings, they also could make it themselfes, couldn`t they?
And if you drew a mascot for a little Shop or something alike, they would afterwards never need your service again(?)

Hello! I am going through a sort of crisis right now and struggling to figure out what art degree/school is the best for me. There are so many options and I’m really just looking for some help. I will be graduating soon and I know I want to pursue a career in art. I have always loved it and while I can be in drawing slumps it is always a passion of mine. I love to draw characters and people. I am not the best at anatomy at all and for some reasons drawing males are difficult for me lol. But, I definitely want to be able to learn and some day become great at drawing them. I love doodles, painting, landscapes, sketching, illustrations, character design, and digital art. The photos attached are some of my favorite artists right now and just art that I love and I’m into. Art that I would love to be able to do some day. Hoping for a little bit of guidance/help. Any feedback would be amazing :)

Hi i am a aspiring concept artist with no prior experience in the game industries.
I am kinda unsure exact;y about how to describe what position i am trying to get hire as like i like to design a bunch of thing but at the same time i don't know to what job offer i must seek to respond or create opportunity and brand myself as THE GUY WHO DOES ''THIS''. I know the position i am looking to fill is concept artist but i am unsure if the thing i like to draw put me in the position of being call a environnement artist or a prop artist i also can't seem to find any job title that sound like concept artist (that specialize in object)like when i try to understand if i am an environnement artist i get the image of myself drawing background landscape which isn't something i am really interest in.There a some categorie of thing i like to draw like character, creature and asset design(prop design) my question is what is the name of the job title i am suppose to apply to?I suppose this also put me in a position to be more specialize which might be against my best interest as a aspiring junior concept artist but at the same time i keep hearing echo that you don't want to be a jack of all trade because it make you average at everything and that prevent you from standing out.

Thank you for feed back and i hope i can clarify this confusion as to better prepare my portfolio. The intention is mostly for me to apply to position that are relevant to me and save time for people who review those portfolio.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I hope this is the right spot for it.

I am currently putting together a portfolio of my work, which I intend to have printed as an actual booklet (so, once it’s printed, I won’t be able to edit it any more) Naturally, I am looking for second opinions before I send it off to the printers. Attached is a WIP file of the pdf with all of my images.

Mostly what I am looking for is your guys’ thoughts on which pieces are the weakest and should be taken out (reasons as to why would be extremely helpful as well!). If you have a definite favorite piece, feel free to mention that, but at this point I am more focused on finding out which pieces are the weakest representations of my work, so that only my best work is shown.

For context, I am currently not working professionally, but I wish to eventually work on a freelance basis as an illustrator in the entertainment industry. Working on board games, trading cards, book covers, and movies would be my ideal career choice.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out!

Hey, all. Haven't been here in a while. I'm hoping to get some help, sorry if this is already been posted before, but I'm crossing my fingers.

So it's been about a month since I graduated university with a BFA in illustration. Although I met a lot of great people there and learned a lot, I still feel like my portfolio isn't as good as I'd like. I've been looking into freelance resources, and although I haven't really reached out yet, I just feel like my stuff isn't up to par to get any call backs.

I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction. I'm in PA, and would prefer to stay within the Northeast corner of the states. It's frustrating, because I feel like there isn't a whole lot over here. Plus, I'm not even really sure of what kind of job I want. Concept art, vis dev, comics, graphic design? Everything I see seems to be catered towards video games, and I'm not sure if that's what I want to get into.

Has anyone tried Schoolism? I'm thinking of subscribing to their monthly service for over the summer, and I'm curious if it'll be worth it.

Thanks to everyone here, you've all helped me tremendously in the past few years. I've been frustrated the past few weeks looking into jobs, I'm not sure if I'm ready for the art industry, but I'm also not sure what direction to even go in. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

I was just wondering if you guys have advice to an aspiring concept artist who wants to gain experience? What are the possible ways that you can do that may be included in resume?

Noting that there aren't any local studios that have concept artist positions. From what I know, in my country it's mostly 2d artists who do vector art for mobile games. There is Ubisoft though but they require:

Minimum 3 years' experience in concept art, in the games industry-preferably with experience in working on highly realistic console game titles

i was looking for a way to get work and someone told me to draw tattoos, so i did that, and got quite a few clients in a short period of time.

I was wondering if any of you where interested in getting paid for your studies, and advertise on my website; https://www.thedigitaltattooshop.com/

You decide the fee, get paid upfront, and i will do the marketting.
Right now ive got google adds doing a little, but will make it work harder when there are a few people on the site. (on things like 'custom tattoo' and tattoo designs')

theres an example ad on the website and on the top right corner theres a button '+post a new service' if you'd like to join.
thanks for reading

It would serve as Dave Rapoza is doing, to gain some experience to produce in the future other projects.
Do you have any tips/ considerations/ suggestions/ procedures that would help spreading, optimizing and facilitating any viewer to read easily, way of present or where to publish? Hopefully any feedback given will encourage/ help others with a similar intent.
Any links posted will be appreciated as well.

I'd really like to work in the video special effects industry (ILM, weta digital etc) but I'm not sure what career options there are in it. I've researched into it and contacted people but a lot of the words are jargon to me (pipeline? technical director?) My reason for this pursual is that I really enjoy art, but also more technical/problem solving subjects at school, and although it's been a childhood dream, I want to turn it to a reality.

I'm going into university next year for an engineering conjoints with media, film and television (which I will then hopefully transition the conjoints part into screen production). Although I think I'm vaguely working towards a career in vfx, I'd like to know the specifics in the industry and know what I really want.

If anyone with any knowledge in this area could help, it would mean a lot.
Thanks :)

I'm gonna preface this by saying there is definitely a whole lot I haven't done yet in terms of looking for work, but largely I think that's because I don't really understand how to approach it in a practical, smart way.

I need to find work, any work (doing 2D illustration), freelance or otherwise. I have applied for a few job postings, as well as submitted my work to a few illustration agencies. But, the response has been complete dead air. The only real interest for my work is personal friends who don't want to pay more than beer money for full, custom paintings or designs. Freelance sites work in such a backwards way... What I really want is a small amount of decently paying jobs (I really don't need much, like $1000/month) rather than wasting my time scrounging bucket loads of small-budget jobs.

I've asked around my peer group, but the main suggestion people come back to me with is to do graphic design, or web design rather than illustration. While that is a more viable career field, it's useless to me because I don't have the knowledge or skill to do either well.

So, how do you even get started? I've really only gotten $20 individual commissions here and there, which is a huge waste of time if you want to be professional.

If anyone has advice or suggestions, I'd be extremely grateful.

Hello,

for start I want to say if I am posting this to wrong section or something tell me right away.

Just wanted to ask if something like that could pass as a portfolio piece for some works? or is it too weird looking?
Past few years I have been just studying art but I dont have any experience with freelance or marketing myself so
I don´t know what is good and what is wrong, but I wanted to create some more characters like that with similiar style, but if it isn´t workable rather save myself time by doing something else.

and one more thing. Do I have a chance to get some work with skills I have now or is it too soon for me with that? I want to do some fantasy illustration/character design but you know beggars can´t be choosers.
Thanks.
