Well i am here to tell you that it you don't want to be that person. Million of people every years lose hour of work for not saving up file but you don't have to.

Here a simple tips to avoid such teeth grinding moment.

First of all now a day if you use photoshop there almost no reason for you to worry about losing a file.

If you have photoshop cs6 or more you can enable save in background which is a extremely useful option to avoid losing sleep and hair.

You can also set the interval at which the program will save. So make sure you have it enable.

But even those photoshop as this fantastic option i can tell you from experience that the best practice for professional is truthfully to set up there own shedule to save file manually i would personally recommend you save the file under a new name every 15-30min(setting a timer to do so would be useful). For some reason even those this incredible feature exist a save file can be corrupt and if you have been working on anything worth finishing you will want to consider make sure to have your work preserve to it most recent iteration

What is worst than losing a file is dealing with a corrupt file and if i can avoid you that well atleast my own headache experience might serve to avoid you one.

That all be safe because it better than being sorry and seriously who want to do twice the job?
Day 1: draw a lot of boxes in space
Day 2: draw a lot of boxes with boxes cut out of them in space
Day 3: draw a lot of other bodies in space
Day 4: make human bodies out of basic bodies in space

I’m making a painting.

Since there are a few people on the forum interested in or curious about traditional art/oil painting, I figured I’d make a thread for it. Thought I’d go over whatever seems relevant or interesting throughout the process and maybe it will be helpful to those new to it or those who haven’t gotten very in-depth into painting. I’m not some super big-brained guy that knows everything or the most amazing painter in the world, but it can maybe be helpful to someone and point in the right direction.

Just as a disclaimer. There are a bunch of different ways of painting and it would be impossible for me to cover everything. What I’ll do is to mostly focus on how I paint but try to include anything extra that may be interesting. I'm also not going super in-depth on every topic because that would way too much for just a forum thread. I'll maybe link to or reference books that expand on anything I bring up.

Feel free to post questions and whatever comes to mind in the thread. It’s good to know what someone is interested in, confused about or struggling with so there’s a better chance that I say something helpful.

So as I’m in the process of setting things up, I can talk about that. First up, the canvas.

I've started a series of videos on Youtube called '1 Minute Art Skills'. Each video is a bite-sized art tutorial that you can watch and then try out, or pause and draw along with.

The first subject is horses - how to get the correct proportions! (Specifically in a side-on view) It's a tough one to learn, but important for those of us that enjoy fantasy and historical illustrations.

Hope it helps someone!
I'd like to share a simple color study I did for learning purposes.

It's a Cornell Box widely known among 3D artists

Reflected Light

Form Shadoes

Cast Shadows

You also see how to colorize over black/white Values.
Each feature is on a separate layer and named so you can understand what it does.

It's more targeted towards beginners I guess, dunno if it helps, take it apart...

Hey guys,
I wanted to go digital and so I had to decide what graphic tablet I should get. Wacom tablets seem to be the most popular.
So I checked their site and I am amazed by how they hit a new user with hundreds of model-names and dont explain what the main characteristics are and why there are always lots of models of the same type and stuff like that.

I spent some hours on their site and on the internet to learn the characteristics a bit.
And because I was so disappointed that there was no good overview for someone new, I made one.

So, if you are thinking about getting a tablet, but you dont know which model to choose or what the difference between those Wacom models is, watch this overview:
I'd like to invite you to share less commonly shared photoshop tricks and techniques.
You know that one thing you always do but you never see mentioned on tutorials? That thing.

Please keep the thread clean and post ONLY straight instructions and what it's for!

I'll start:

Photoshop performance tips:

Scratch disk management: go to Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks

This next window will list all the disks on your system.
Check the disk you want to use as scratch other than the system disk. A minimum of 20gb available is recommended;
Uncheck the disk where the system is installed (usually C: in Windows).

This will reduce the disk access conflicts with the OS, and your big operations will turn more responsive.
Couple of tricks will help your system go through the ordeal:

Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance and lower history states count. 10 is very light on the system; But beware you're will have this much fewer undo levels/history states.

Every time you do a image wide operation, like flipping a canvas, you can go to Edit > Purge > All (or whatever you deem adequate). Purging all WILL CLEAR YOUR UNDO HISTORY (This means you will be unable to undo anything before this operation) but it will also free all your ram and clean the files on the disk.
Positive thinking play a key role for a stress free mindset. Negative thought are like dark cloud that rain down on us heavly .You are invited not ti fall into the trap of letting the negative thought form or they will linger in your mind. Recognizing the moment and the quality of were thought allow us to admitting that nothing is perfect and that it always possible to do or be better than before as long as you choose to make the effort required.

It important to understand that you are a ever learning person and that mean you will fail and you will make error but that not going to stop you from the goal you set for yourself. Choose actively to see mistake as a way to improve as a sign of your humanity and as stepping stone to whatever objective you might have .

Here what to do to behave in a more positive and optimistic way:

-Allowing yourself to be positive
If you don't allow yourself to be positive you cannot begin to unlocking the power of a positive mindset. Be curious of the positive outcome a problem can generate. You want to be fluid and not magnifiying the negative thought that might cripple you. Have an authentic dialogue with yourself whenever possible it important to be able to recognize the vocabulary you use and it possible effect on yourself.

-Identify areas to change.
If you want to become more optimistic and engage in more positive thinking, first identify areas of your life that you typically think negatively about, whether it's work, your daily commute or a relationship. You can start small by focusing on one area to approach in a more positive way. Be honest and don't be unnecessarily harsh about the thing you did to other or to yourself in the past and be willing to change even if you have problem letting go of habit it only possible if you don't sabotage yourself.

-Be open to humor.
Give yourself permission to smile or laugh, especially during difficult times. Seek humor in everyday happenings. When you can laugh at life, you feel less stressed.

-Check yourself. Periodically during the day, stop and evaluate what you're thinking. If you find that your thoughts are mainly negative, try to find a way to put a positive spin on them. Take a walk and close your cellphone spend sometime with yourself even if the thought of it seem scary alot can be done when we aren't trying to distract were mind from the thing we are running away from.
