It's like collecting different puzzle pieces together to make a whole picture.

For sure, it's such a game changer when you go out there take your own references, sculpt things etc. and use those to create a finished image.

I've seen James Gurney use little toy cars as reference for a full size painting he's done - that was cool!

@Brian: That sounds cool - I'll check that out.

He made small sculptures of the portraits he was going to pain, then light them dramatically and take pictures, then draw them from the ref of his own sculptures

To sculpting, setting up the lightning, bunch of thumbnail sketches, I was like wow, that's a lot of steps that goes into coming up with what he does.

26 Jul 08:17

Brian Hermelijn

--

For sure loader. Have you seen James Gourney process of coming up with his dinosaurs?

26 Jul 08:17

Artloader

--

@Brian: Yep the more I study art, the more I see that it's good to think in 3D.

26 Jul 08:16

hristovdraws

definitely, idk why it helped me a ton with perspective, it was like visualizing thing in right perspective easier

26 Jul 08:16

Artloader

@Mariyan: Sounds cool what you're doing though - good luck with it :)

Tried sculpting few days ago, and it challenges your brain greatly to really think in 3D. Not too sure if I will delve deeper with it, since it requires more focused session on its own, but definitely an interesting tool to put your concepts in 3D view.

yeah , actually its a little bit stupid that i wrote that, because its a really small part of it all

26 Jul 08:12

Lenses? Focal length etc.?

26 Jul 08:11

hristovdraws

well things can go downhill from there as well, if one doesn't know how to render it properly use lenses etc.

26 Jul 08:10

Artloader

--

@Mariyan: Yeah that make sense too - you can add a lot of detail and the perspective etc. is handled for you :)
