--I hadn't thought of switching to SSDs completely, I was figuring on having a high capacity HD for storage and an SSD system drive, with a scratch disk for painting if I could afford it.
23 Jul 07:57
--Yeah, I don't want to use the cloud exclusively cause it is entirely out of our control.
23 Jul 07:56
--Yeah I don't trust cloud storage enough yet to migrate fully. I doubt I will. That stuff is totally out of your control
23 Jul 07:55
--most important files I keep in the cloud as well, and on external an external drive. Triple redundancy
23 Jul 07:55
--I'm old fashioned, I prefer local backups. Also my internet is kinda shitty sometimes, I don't want to rely on it.
23 Jul 07:54
--Hmm, so you want to use SSDs only in conjunction with HDs for permanent storage.
23 Jul 07:54
--exactly zip! Material stuff in the end, even our digital artwork is really just stuff and isn't important. Take care of yourself and your health though! Sorry to hear your troubles there
23 Jul 07:53
--ahaha yeah I guess so. I'll guess I just look at this as startng point for something new...
23 Jul 07:52
--I was pretty zen at the time. Just remember your best work is probably ahead of you not behind you :)
23 Jul 07:52
--I've been wondering about these SSDs, though, what kind of failure modes do they have?
23 Jul 07:52
--I realised it wasn't a big deal. I needed a break at the time anyway so it worked out haha
23 Jul 07:51
--Yeah some (probably young) punks broke in and tried to start up the car to steal it. They failed but screwed up the ignition as they went, so decided to steal all my shit. It was valentines day and I had planned on taking my gf on a picnic. lol We had the picnic in the parking garage waiting for the tow truck lol. Yeah I lost everything...all my music of 15 years, music I made, writing and all art hah
23 Jul 07:51
--I have one hooked up to my Mac right now, and a good thing too, 'cause the HD is several years old and I'm sure I can't trust it not to conk on me one of these days.
23 Jul 07:50
--Yeah my library and all my started study files are gone. And I build up that library over serveral years
23 Jul 07:49
--Yep. Definitely keep redundant backups....especially of your reference if you have an extensive library. You can whip out new pieces anytime, but it takes craploads of time to build up refs again haha. I actually refused to keep any refs on my drive after that for a while
