I didn't say the only reason was that, but it is one of them. A lot of the people who died in recent wars were contractors, and they don't count civilian deaths the same way.

Hey that guy in the vid you linked has hair a lot like mine. :D

Nah the reason was money. You can overcharge a private company for "services" and the military will pay for it. Guess who owned shares in the main contractor companies.

And nobody seems to give a f*ck about people who got their family get together busted by a bunch of Hellfire missiles.

This is also one of the reasons civilian military contractors became such a thing. Politicians could ignore the real costs of war because civilians aren't sent home with flags draped over their coffins.

Mechanizoid

Yeah, just keep the killing well from US (pun intended) and we are happy lol

I know, I'm going to go fly a drone over Trump's next ralley and take that fucker out, because clearly it would be better for the outcomes for world peace.

16 Jul 09:57

Amit Dutta

It's fucked up beyond belief

16 Jul 09:57

Mechanizoid

I think the reason drones are accepted is that a. they keep the horrors of war well away from US citizens and b. no boots on the ground, thus no dead young people sent home with flags draped on their coffins.

Apparently extrajudicial international drone killings, is a good ideal for a democracy to live by

16 Jul 09:54

The US saying anything about major international events is like a massive in-joke. Why they aren't laughed down and boo'd everytime they open their mouths about democracy I don't understand.

16 Jul 09:54

Mechanizoid

Yes, I don't really believe anything they say either.

16 Jul 09:54

Jan Kloidt

they said the same during the coup in egypt, and after it went through they just dealt with the military leadership as if nothing had happened. no reason to trust these sugary official statements about values & democracy

16 Jul 09:48

Mechanizoid

But we'll see what happens.

16 Jul 09:48

Mechanizoid

According the Obama admin they wouldn't support military coups 'cause it goes against the ideals of democracy.

turkey is a central point in the operations in syria atm, they'd have to arrange themselves with that new leadership to keep that going

16 Jul 09:39

Jan Kloidt

i heard the opposite xD

16 Jul 09:39

Mechanizoid

At least that is what they are saying now.

That's NATO, from what I hear the US won't have dealings with countries that have had a military takeover.

fucked up diplomacy

16 Jul 09:34

Jan Kloidt

lol according to the news the NATO doesnt care about this & could accept a turkey under a military leadership as a full member because it's no attack from outside the country

There is footage of helicopters shooting and ground targets in Turkish cities, looks like some violence has erupted.

16 Jul 09:30

Amit Dutta

they classify the coup into 4 outcomes. Read the article later if you're interested

16 Jul 09:30

Mechanizoid

and the other 60%? Seems dicey to me.

16 Jul 09:28

Amit Dutta

40% of successful post cold-war coups resulted in democracies in 2 years..according to that article

16 Jul 09:28

Mechanizoid

Personally I already thought that military coups weren't good for democracy, even if they topple an autocratic regime, typically another asshole just uses it as an opportunity to seize power.
