--Apparently extrajudicial international drone killings, is a good ideal for a democracy to live by
16 Jul 09:54
--The US saying anything about major international events is like a massive in-joke. Why they aren't laughed down and boo'd everytime they open their mouths about democracy I don't understand.
16 Jul 09:54
--they said the same during the coup in egypt, and after it went through they just dealt with the military leadership as if nothing had happened. no reason to trust these sugary official statements about values & democracy
16 Jul 09:48
--According the Obama admin they wouldn't support military coups 'cause it goes against the ideals of democracy.
16 Jul 09:41
--turkey is a central point in the operations in syria atm, they'd have to arrange themselves with that new leadership to keep that going
16 Jul 09:39
--That's NATO, from what I hear the US won't have dealings with countries that have had a military takeover.
16 Jul 09:34
--lol according to the news the NATO doesnt care about this & could accept a turkey under a military leadership as a full member because it's no attack from outside the country
16 Jul 09:30
--There is footage of helicopters shooting and ground targets in Turkish cities, looks like some violence has erupted.

--40% of successful post cold-war coups resulted in democracies in 2 years..according to that article
16 Jul 09:28
--Personally I already thought that military coups weren't good for democracy, even if they topple an autocratic regime, typically another asshole just uses it as an opportunity to seize power.
16 Jul 09:27
--just saw a vid of people climbing on top of tanks trying to stop them, doesnt seem very popular indeed
16 Jul 09:25
--Yeah, that's true, though I don't think that the guys seizing power will really consider that a win for them. They want to take over long-term. :-)
16 Jul 09:25
--Interesting stats in this http://rap.sagepub.com/content/3/1/2053168016630837
16 Jul 09:24
--I find it funny that a coup is considered a "success" if it lasts a week LOL
16 Jul 09:24
--Looks like it is a pure military coup, too, some guys in the army deciding to seize power.
16 Jul 09:20
--probably won't last long here, poplulation demonstrating against it already
16 Jul 09:19
--interesting stat coups succeed or fail basically on a 50/50 chance, and it is deemed a success if they hold power for 7 days haha
