That's just for a year, after that they should study on their own, feng developed an specific method to teach based on how he learned, but polished

like with monkeybread, i can always recognise his work from a thumbnail becausae of the way he uses colour and his style, very unique

Gliger

Yeah they all look like bad copies of feng BUT

07 May 23:35

Wardy

--

yep

07 May 23:35

Gliger

--

mainly because you are just copying him and not his influences, and you have to wait till he puts up new stuff to learn new stuff

07 May 23:35

Wardy

exactly! thats why i want to make my own style, an instant recognition of 'thats Wardys work'

07 May 23:35

Wardy

excatly that. that is one of hte main criticisms of FZD, it makes people exact replicas of Feng

07 May 23:35

Gliger

The thing is, if you are a copy cat, you'll never be as good as the original

07 May 23:34

Wardy

you can do it, it works, but i think its essential you develop

07 May 23:34

If they do it well, after a couple years of 100% copying an artist for a year each, they should have they own style, but yeah, the ones who only copy boby chiu for the rest of their life are boring

07 May 23:34

Wardy

--

essentially making them an artist who does endless studies of another artist

07 May 23:34

Wardy

--

essentially, people who look at someones work and then actively replicate it in coposition, style, colour pallette

07 May 23:34

Wardy

--

yeh exactly the same with me, but then i saw al oad of textural work so i incorporated that

07 May 23:33

Gliger

--

So you are talking about copycats?

07 May 23:33

Wardy

--

i agree, i take influences ffrom everywhere

07 May 23:33

Gliger

--

In the begining the only concept art I saw was feng's, so I painte like feng

07 May 23:33

Wardy

--

there is a difference between collected influence and copying

07 May 23:33

Gliger

--

We all do

07 May 23:33

Gliger

--

I steal styles all the time

07 May 23:32

Wardy

--

and i think stealing peoples styles takes all the point out of making art your own

07 May 23:32

Wardy

--

ive altered them and collected them to make something which will often result in my style

07 May 23:32

If what to need to do, requires the use of a special brush, then it will help, but many people develop a super stylized style just with the default round brush, or any of the default brushes

07 May 23:32

Wardy

--

because though some of the brushes i use are taken from other peoples brush sets they offer

07 May 23:32

Wardy

--

thats why to some extent i would be reluctant to release my brush set

07 May 23:31

Gliger

--

I don't know how to explain it

07 May 23:31

Gliger

--

Brushes help, if the brushes compliment your style

07 May 23:30

Wardy

--

basically my point is brushes dont make an artist, but they can sure as hell help you to make your picture a pretty one and help you establish a style

07 May 23:30

Wardy

--

oh yeh

07 May 23:30

Wardy

--

another style completely, a lot like fengs http://rxw-conceptart.deviantart.com/art...-430107228

A shitty piece will always be a whitty piece, and I too have seen my work improved by special brushes, but have you seen what people put up, stuff they made with just the round brush?

07 May 23:29

Wardy

--

nah i use photos sometimes just to ground the iamge

07 May 23:29

Gliger

And, I get it, it's what I said, textures make stuff aesthetically pleasing but you don't need brushes to get textures
