as we dont have acess to physical brushes like traditional artists do, i think texture brushes have a huge influence on our style as an artist. if you want to be like feng and go with an elipse brush, you can make very sci-fi effects with lots of sharp edges, while if you use a very loose and painterly brush, you will achieve a more natural feel which may suit natural environments

that would not be as aesthetically pleasing if it was the same level of detail, but using a round brush.

uuuh i think they count for a lot. for example http://rxw-conceptart.deviantart.com/art...-437528919

Brushes = Improve speed + Lucky accidents, that's basically it if you count the part of the style afected by the brushes ''happy accidents''

07 May 22:57

Wardy

they can be so useful for workflow too, for example Scott Robertson's custom mech blocking brush

But with some changes

Gliger

I kind of agree with you though

07 May 22:56

Gliger

You technically can do anything with the default round brush, and if you add the other 2 you increase the speed.

07 May 22:48

Wardy

you develop style partly using your own brushes, and they really improve my art from what it would be if i used only default

07 May 22:48

Wardy

like textural work- you try that with a round brush or an airbrush

07 May 22:48

Wardy

im gonna be controversial here and say that without decent brushes, a lot of things are impossible

yeah its not the tools its the skill

07 May 20:30

Gliger

You can't get good until you realise the power of the default round brush yeah

tool presets are for the efficient painter. eventually when you get sick of switching brushes and tweaking settings every time you'll start using them. ;)

07 May 16:09

Gliger

I don't

I use tool presets a lot. I have way too many brushes and am far too lazy to sort through them lol I save the ones I use most as presets and when I need something specific I go digging. But yeah they do save the color to them when you create them unless you uncheck the box

what's tool presets?

Random question: on photoshop, does everyone use tools presets? I can't get used to them. Silly thing changing my selected color bothers me to no end haha
