--very true, its a lot like shouting across a room. i think ive had some pretty amazing moments of clarity, though i dont think ive ever experienced a glimpse of enlightenment. perspective yes, but i think im just too clouded in my mind atm.

--yeah it's not going to be an easy convo in this forum :) It's hard enough when talking between two people in real life...The understanding of how you define yourself as this entity individual and distinct from all others is the ego. We don;t like letting go of that because it seems so obvious that we must be. "I think therefore I am" There are times however when you can lose this feeling and it's akin to being one with everything...I've only experienced this twice for brief periods and it was amazing

--The only thing im someone sure about is my own opinions, im not even suer if any of you are even real

--as an extreme individualist, i cant agree with your point of view wardy, though i agree that everything is part of the same "system"

--following that reasoning, when we die we can only have the same experience, or lack of experience, as what was before we were born. we wont have to put up with everlasting non existance because thats not an experience.

--maybe you misunderstand what I mean by ego protection. It's a concept of tao and buddhist philisophy :) We all do it

--in a rather grim example- lock two twins in a basement, make them blind deaf mute and unable to feel anything. literally a soul in darkness. they are either the same thing and they are nothing. our base state, our true state, is that of nothingness. everything else are just accolades which will turn to dust. and no i agree with monkey, just arguing my point i feel the need to justify that i am right and i have value, which is intersting when someone points it out

--i dont think anyone is trying to protect themselvs here- where just throwing opinions around
27 Apr 09:11
--I think the main realisation is that understanding the idea of we are all one, or the "renunciation of the ego" is a thing we only briefly glimpse...the ego is constantly fighting to define and protect itself, and the ego is the cause of most of the problems in the world

--ok. lets talk biology. we get nutrition from our mothers bodies when we are growing, they get energy from food, which get energy from the sun which is a star, a beautiful burning fragment of a huge blossoming of energy in teh world which we have no idea of its origins

--how can you honostly say people are the same though... from a human point of view- we are all very different if you ask me

--apartheid was more about one group exploiting the other, it would have happened even they were all the same :P

--we demonise those with different views because we see them as different 'people'
27 Apr 09:07
--i just understood what watts meant i think. and its weirdly simple but just blows your mind. we are all exactly the same 'person' (the label we put on it at least). we are just energy that has been distributed from the stars, given different genetic traits because of an imperfect means of replicaiton and given different circumstances becasue of an imperfect system. we are all i and you are all you. damn we are awsome.
