haha mate ive already had so many people tell me to give up and that im worthless, trust me the point of backing down passed a long time ago. the more people look down on me the more i want to rub an awesome life in their face :D

yeah true... but fuck the world and it's stereotypes. it's wardy vs the world and it always will be :)

especially by people who dont udnerstand it at all. like when i say concept art and try to explain it, you can see on peoples faces they are thinking 'right so hes going to be unemployed'. it makes it all the harder. while if you were studying to do law, it almost feels like youve got something thats more tangible and more real to strive for

i think the stereotype built around art doesnt help. its almost expected that you fail.

it does require mental toughness which is why a lot of people drop out of the art dream.....

you say that but i have so much respect for you doing a job and art at the same time. i struggle to motivate myself to paint during holidays, a whole work day and the prospect of shifting careers would be draining, so serious kudos to you

look man if you're determined you will make it, you will make it

haha welcome to the last 15 years of my life :p

its like my art teachers at school. i know some of them do it but have exhibitions on the side, but teaching slowly becomes their life i imagine and that scares the hell out of me.

yeh i know. thats partly why i definitnely want to go the uni path, to buy me time to find out my niche. i know so strongly what i want to do now, but who knows in a couple years. what im scared of most is getting out, not getting a job, and then doing a job which i dont love for so long that i give up the dream.

went to a schol that he hated, but got a job at a laundromat or something and drew dragons all night

you will also learn more about yourself in that time so you may want to focus on something a bit more specific to that, or do it in your own time. Kekai did this

if what you pick ends up being not quite right, you will adapt

Amit Dutta

yeah I know the feeling....but remember, the choice of uni and programme etc while important will NOT determine your success once you get out. only you will....it's actually reassuring to take some pressure off in that respect

im worried if im honest. really worried. i have no idea if doing this is a good idea. i know that i have to do art as a job, there is not question, i will be miserable of i dont, but i wish i could see what i should do. im doing a foundation at LCC to buy myself a year and give myself a plan B in graphic/product deisgn but honestly im terrified

27 Apr 08:02

Amit Dutta

and you'll always have to self study even in uni :)

27 Apr 08:01

Amit Dutta

just don't compromise too much if you know really clearly what you want to focus on

27 Apr 08:00

so I think if you do your research on the place, you should be good

yeah man i read that a while back, great article you wrote

i want to be with other people and have a bit of a life before i get to working and im afraid ill miss that if i go self taught. and i may slip

yeh

being self taught sounds really lonely and tiring to me. i know that you have it on the side from work, but coming out of secondary school with your parents expecting you to fly the nest and then camping at home for a couple years in your room for 'art' isnt really an option.

27 Apr 07:59

Amit Dutta

yeah there's a limit you can stretch yourself to, and 6 months to a year with5 hours sleep a night is probably the limit before you crack

27 Apr 07:58

Wardy

haha true, but its spread out more, while fzd is like HERE IS EVERYTHING YOU WILL EVER NEED. DO IT FOR TOMORROW MORNING.

27 Apr 07:57

Amit Dutta

for 3 times as long :p

27 Apr 07:57

Wardy

while fzd has a reputation for pushing students until 40% of them leave in the first term with no refunds which sounds dodgy

27 Apr 07:57

Wardy

--

yeah ive heard that too, but ive heard its tolerable level of hardcore

27 Apr 07:56

Wardy

--

they try to train you to be a level designer, environment artist, texture artist, 3d modeller, concept artist

27 Apr 07:56

Amit Dutta

--

from what I've heard, Art Centre is just as hardcore

27 Apr 07:56

Wardy

exactly. that is what puts me off! if its concept design, just say it and leave it at that.
