--Another thing about still life: remember the focused studying? When doing still life you can just stop worrying about a lot of things and focus ONLY on get the painting as good as possible. Then you'd learning rendering. Take your time and to do it as accurately as possible :)

--Believe me, you learn a LOT more painting from life - it's way harder than from photos. And yeah, the point of still lives it to practice render :) And don't paint apples! paint metals and plastic and aluminum foil and crumpled paper. it's hardcore haha

--ive never done still lifes becauses ive never seen the goal of them. if its to find how to render surfaces then fair enough, but honestly i would just look up some pics. i dont understand painting apples and oranges if u see what i mean. why do you recommend them? honestly interested :)

--Nous: now that I am teaching, it's surprising how a LOT of people don't know that photos are used. They assume it's all painted and don't understand how can it be so real/quick... so yeah, that article is very good on illuminating people.
