Here is a nice tale: have you watched pacific rim? You know it was written as a friendship story, not a romance? Hence no kiss in the end too. But we are so absorbed on the idea that the chick is there to be banged that we IMPOSE that on her. And that is where people say this sexism is toxic.

Btw, just to clarify, do you guys find Game of Thrones sexist? the books preferably

You never save zelda for the princess affection. That is YOUR reading on the story, not what is on the screen. Remember Link never kissed Zelda. Twilight Princess made a nice turn on that trope too.

like... what? I would totally understand a hug, but more than everything, if I saved a kid and she though that a kiss would be an acceptable recompense....

Volatilely.

21 Mar 07:34

hows it going guys?

21 Mar 07:34

Gliger

--

That said, I've always found weird that the prize for rescuing a princess is a kiss

21 Mar 07:33

Jaik

except zelda..

21 Mar 07:33

Jaik

tbh, I can't remember the last game I played where the hero rescued the chick because he wanted to bang her?

Sex is a factor, it can make a story more interesting, whether people accept it or not... but, it's true that cinema and tv are full of pointless sex scenes, and don't let me get started into anime

21 Mar 07:31

Gliger

Basically Axe ads

21 Mar 07:31

Gliger

Alright I know what you are talking about

21 Mar 07:31

Finnjamin

The problem isn't that males are attracted to women, it's that sex is relied on for storytelling and character motivation.

let me grab a link. It's a long read, but it's a good one

21 Mar 07:31

Gliger

I'm looking it up Ursula

Gliger

Ursula, I was just about to say that my last example isn't good because I didn't get into functionality and backstory, yeah

21 Mar 07:30

Ursula Dorada

you guys certainly heard of the male gaze yes? The male gaze is the problem, not the bikini.

21 Mar 07:30

Finnjamin

Profound.

constructicon

sex sells omg...

21 Mar 07:29

Jaik

or if the jungle is a kitchen.. which would make for a boring video game

21 Mar 07:29

Ursula Dorada

--

gliger, it can and it cannot be sexism. That will depends a whole lot on how you frame it. It every camera angles will feature ass and boobs because she is in a bikini, it IS sexist. Its gratuitous. If can, however, have the bikini and make it not sexist.

21 Mar 07:29

Gliger

--

Mmmm, not necessarily

21 Mar 07:29

Jaik

--

but if you design a girl in a jungle, in a bikini, with a frying pan. Thats sexism.

21 Mar 07:28

Gliger

--

But, I'm sure a ton of people would call it that

21 Mar 07:28

Gliger

--

Sexism means either discrimination or promotion of certain social roles based on gender, if I design a girl lost in a jungle that wears a bikini, it's not sexism

21 Mar 07:28

Jaik

--

I blame pixels.

21 Mar 07:27

Finnjamin

--

The term is what it is, you can't change it's cultural context based on what the technical meaning is

21 Mar 07:26

Gliger

Which in a way, is also the industry's fault
