The quickest way is to model and re-typo characters in zb or equvilent prog.

I've gotten around box modelling no problem with 3ds max, I perfer it over sketchup.Except max is so old as a program it struggles sometimes unless you have at least 16gb ram.

I kind of like how simple and clean box modelling can be, but that's irrelevant unless model is for animation

I'm struggling between zSphere and box modelling

yup, it's just better. And fun. <3

Indeed, but after using zbrush and zspheres I'm too spolied to go back. Before I was just using dynamesh - but for concept busts but not full models. Of course for quick human perspective you could always use poser - but zb has excellent rendering methods. Combine it with keyshot and you're home.

BTW, sculptris is a nice way to start. Even to get reference on that pesky perspective, much like people do with sketchup for architecture

What nailed it for me though was using zspheres to build the initial mesh - my life with zb is so much easier now.

I mean if anyone is intimidated by zb just begin with Scultpris first and use the GoZ function - simplicity.

(which just means I have not done a single personal thing today and I am officially late for PD2 :| )

:D awesome. I need to give zbrush some love too.. I am just too focused on 2D right now. I need to make this work. I need to crawl out the boring phase

05 Mar 12:44

I just started and completed a project in zbrush - just like you would start with a blank canvas in photoshop.

05 Mar 12:42

Or 3d-sculpt. I'm still waiting for Blender to allow up to a billion polygons, in it's sculpting app - that's going to take a while.

I haven't done a lot of things I should have done or should be doing........

05 Mar 12:41

meat

that's the problem! ... although I sort of fall into that too but I haven't loaded it not because of the UI

05 Mar 12:36

Nous

I mean you can always try Mudbox or Typogun.

05 Mar 12:36

Ursula Dorada

Yeah, but you need to TRY it out, not just call it trash and never load it again lol

05 Mar 12:35

Nous

Indeed most if not all good graphic progs will let you customise.

05 Mar 12:35

meat

--

that way you don't blink twice when something goes wrong 'cos you're confused by the UI

05 Mar 12:34

meat

--

my solution: save-a-lot-variations

05 Mar 12:34

meat

Most graphic softwares let you customize UI now I think, at least the 3D ones

05 Mar 12:34

Nous

--

But I do get why beginners are whining - There are many save functions and the tabs are not laid to familiar standards we are used to seeing.

05 Mar 12:32

Nous

You can always customise the UI, there's a whole digital tutors tutorial on it.

The whole UI thing is emblematic. Just notice that one time facebook change the notes icon from right to left, people were crying as if they had broke FB. Same on twitter. Same on dA. People NEVER even think about trying and asking if there was a reason to change it in the 1st place... It's.. weird. Give a nice honest shot and you might be surprised.

for some reasons I always thing those who complains the most and the loudest are somehow throwing smoke bombs to conceal something

05 Mar 12:25

"get used to it" is being made a rather big deal in the 3D student world - everyone is whining to the High Heavens about the ZBrush UI

05 Mar 10:25

Ursula Dorada

Zbrush UI is kinda crazy.. but once you get used to it, it's nice to see how it IS tailored to be used with a tablet

yeah man, I couldn't agree more Gliger. Once I used Zbrush for the couple of days, it's like something so simple finally clicked! Haha, it's fun to use as well :3

I could never get past the crazy ui. Soo many buttons

05 Mar 07:16

Gliger

heh thanks, the forms are already in my head because I've studied so much, I just lacked the skill to represent them. Zbrush fixed that, I've also noticed a nice improvement in my 2d paintings, working in 3D changed the way I think about a lot of stuff

05 Mar 06:58

--

you're doing pretty well for 2 days.

05 Mar 06:56

Gliger

nope, I've only been using it for 2 days, there stuff I want to get the feel for by myself, I'll join later
