--"any artist with a bit of good reference could do it" ... wrong.
19 Feb 15:24
--how is he shitting on daarken he said hes excellent its just not his favorite subject matter.
19 Feb 15:21
--Finnjamin, why are you shitting on the talent of other great artists? your really over simplifying the genius of some of these people...
19 Feb 13:36
--Any artist with a bit of good reference could do it, you just have to keep working.
19 Feb 13:33
--And dude, custom brushes don't make those IPs look incredible, it's just high resolution and a lot of cleaning up and balancing things visually.
19 Feb 13:32
--Daarken is excellent, but still pretty much just an evolved version of 'sexist fantasy artist'. Which is great, I love boobies. But I'm not a fourteen year old any more. I need more to care about.
19 Feb 12:32
--i didnt even use the lasso tool to sharpen my edges until recently and i dont use any custom brushes so my stuff looks dated to me when compared to typical aplibot or mtg stuff
19 Feb 12:26
--eh im just trying to find something to take me to that next level. not sure if i should just start studying my favorite artists more
19 Feb 12:20
--And I agree that theory is worth reading, it would have taken me a long time to understand the implementation of contrast if I hadn't read about keeping it close to focal points, but it's not necessary to pay for those lessons, they're free online. Just search.

--Haha, I just totally schooled my older brother on handwriting. With my non-dominant hand I produced more legible script than him. He was so pissy
19 Feb 11:59
--Yeah, I like the theory though. Not technique (this brush here), but thoery (this color goes here because). Its simple - but oh so hard. And really rewarding when you really understand it
19 Feb 10:46
--this forum needs more silly pep, your 3 first and final words to your dog if it could talk go
19 Feb 10:41
--i think my best bet is to just by the massive black books and try to match the quality haha
19 Feb 09:35
--I think you learn more from studying works without explanation, so yeah, masters > techniques.
19 Feb 09:20
--I have a few volumes of digital art masters as well as I think digital art techhniques 1-3, I've thumbed through all of them. I've read gurneys color and light cover to cover probably 6 six times :P
19 Feb 09:19
--You'll learn from whatever you do. Though I can certainly remember the sensation of disappointment from buying "how to" books that were largely only useful as repositories of images. I'd trade them all for a single Digital Art Masters book.
19 Feb 08:45
--thanks thats what most of the reviews said on amazon but i thought since theyre rated so high they must be some good
19 Feb 08:41
--i imagine theyre like an imagine fx issue where the tuts are all the same and arnt that helpful
19 Feb 08:41
--I bought one of them and there's some useful stuff, but nothing you can't find online I think :/
19 Feb 08:40
--im thinking of buying one of these digital painting techniques books. anybody have any and are they usefull?
19 Feb 07:32
--Ah, I remember it doing that too. It's functional for me today though. Must be temperamental.
19 Feb 04:50
--DanialG, you can still search on cghub, the text field is in the top right.
