I wish they didn't even use the word artist when talking about concepting. It's more design really.

Oh, yeah, and habit forming, it is hard at the start!

We really have to study the same sort of stuff. :-)

Of course, it is important to be able to make a good looking picture as a concept artist as well, so those skill sets really overlap for both jobs.

Yes, composition is a very important fundamental for illustration.

The other areas like (value, perspective, form, shapes) I have a general understanding of them, just need to continue applying.

03 Jul 14:24

Brian Hermelijn

Well you could say for illustration, some areas I still need to delve into (the theory part) is composition and story telling.

03 Jul 14:23

Brian Hermelijn

Yeah. Habit forming is the most difficult during the beginning

03 Jul 14:23

Brian Hermelijn

Back. Was recording myself drawing hehe..

And other vehicles, robots, and characters fitting in those universes.

Guess that makes it easy for me, though. I know exactly what I'm after–drawing awesome spaceships, mostly in a realistic hard-SF style (not space fantasy like Star Wars).

I've realized that I'm a little bit unique for know exactly what I wanted to do before I even picked up my pen. With me, it's just DOING it that's the trouble. :D

03 Jul 14:03

Mechanizoid

It does kinda, you just setting out on your path to find what you like best.

Hopefully my vague answer, answers you question? Hehe.

Oh forgot about Cuhsart as well.

03 Jul 13:59

Brian Hermelijn

But yeah, initially the thing that got me learning more on how to draw thus far is, I want that feeling of creating the worlds that I have seen that made be like "Inspired, In awe, In love, the design" of the whole creation

03 Jul 13:56

Brian Hermelijn

You could say I am just following the advice I have been giving from Amit so many times, which is : "Just take a path"

03 Jul 13:55

Brian Hermelijn

I guess the artists whom I follow fall more in illustration (Loish, Rhads, Albert Bierstardt, Rossdraws, Peter Han)

03 Jul 13:54

Brian Hermelijn

To be honest I am not really sure you know. I am just juggling different things together to see what comes out of it, ha. Possibly illustration? Like art that makes you feel like I wanna be in that world kind of way? If that make sense.

03 Jul 13:53

Mechanizoid

I've realized that I'm really interested in concept art, which doesn't change the skills I need, but it does change how I think about it.

03 Jul 13:52

Mechanizoid

Hey, Hermi, what is your main interest in art?

03 Jul 13:52

Brian Hermelijn

--

Although I do want to try illustration this month, not sure what. Writing down prompts/ideas.

03 Jul 13:51

Brian Hermelijn

--

Same. Will definitely consider it in near future when I get into composition, for now, I want to focus on the torso anatomy.

03 Jul 12:55

Very interesting, I'm not studying composition just yet, but I'm gonna keep this in mind!

some of them probably, most have more sopisticated value transitions though. Notans are more about the form then you can develop them further

03 Jul 12:48

Brian Hermelijn

Isn't that what Charles bargue plates are as well?

03 Jul 12:47

Well when you put it like that ... I'd best check out those links!

@Piotr: So Notans would be good for someone wanting to start learning values?
