--tfw 2014 still not doing jazz hands for hand stretching
30 Jan 04:38
--A good way to help with wrist and finger strain is to do a bunch of mountain climber exercises. A simple beginner workout is more than enough and can be done in just a few minutes.
30 Jan 04:36
--the best bet is to just focus on practicing good form when drawing, just like a guitarist. you dont want to develop more bad habits because youll be doing art for a long time in your life and you dont want to develop wrist problems
30 Jan 04:36
--I find lifting weights helps with wrist and finger strain through over use of the wacom
30 Jan 04:30
--Maybe to get one of those gloves... though I don't think I could find them anywhere close and I doubt they ship that specific stuff worldwide
30 Jan 04:28
--ah i mean wrist but is the same nerve just different areas where it passes through a narrow passageway and can become compressed
30 Jan 04:28
--I don't think it feels numb out of the blue like that, though, I am holding it against stuff pretty much through the whole day, being it desk or drawing tablet:( So I basically can't test it lol
30 Jan 04:26
--Now I'm confused, I googled carpal tunnel and median nerve and it goes through where I thought:)
30 Jan 04:26
--it would be a persistent numbness thats there even when your arm isnt resting against the edge of the desk for periods of time
30 Jan 04:25
--Well, I do have some tingling and stuff if I use mouse too much and press on the underside of the hand for a long period of time (well, after years of practice, it really hapens after like a minute lol:D), but nothing major. My hand doesn't feel numb or stuff like that. I much more often develop pain in those two tendons that move the thumb (you can see them if you lift the thumb)
30 Jan 04:22
--I don't personally have much of that "carpal tunnel-y" discomfort, but I thought it was the tunnel that goes through your hand
30 Jan 04:22
--cubital tunnel seems to be just another nerve compression syndrome and if your arm isnt feeling like its falling asleep and you have weakened movement its probably like i said over stretched tendons
30 Jan 04:19
--yea unless you've seen a specialist on arms i wouldnt jump to any conclusions on what may be causing arm discomfort
30 Jan 04:16
--cuital tunnel though, it's what artists get, or that's what I've heard from artists ''with it''
30 Jan 04:15
--theres a lot of misinformation and the tendency is "oh you have pain in the arm? CARPAL TUNNEL!" but there are much more things going on in the forearm that cause pain. usually its from flexor or extensor muscles pulling against eachother unevenly and causing the thendons to become over stretched
30 Jan 04:06
--You put constant pressure on the underside of the palm, where it meets the arm
30 Jan 04:05
--Isn't the carpal thing from stressing the underside of your palm, for example when playing games with a mouse too much
30 Jan 04:04
--Yes, I do it like that when drawing on paper (which is never in the last like a year or so:) )

--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3lApsNmdwM feng showing how to use the elbow at 07:49
30 Jan 03:53
--and carpal tunnel is actually a compression of the medial nerve in the elbow which is unrelated to poor drawing posture. its a common misdiagnosis. typically youll get carpal tunnel from breaking your arm and the bone healing wrong and compresses the nerve
30 Jan 03:50
--the tendons and muscle in your wrist will wear out much quicker than the ones in your arm
30 Jan 03:48
--the classical spin you wrists, and the ''with the other hand, push the top of your fingers in the directon where they don't bend'', I really need to improve my english vocabulary lol
30 Jan 03:46
--5 seconds each, repeat as much as you need, I usually do it just once or twice every hour.
