Take the time, save up a few months worth of rent, then do what you want for a while. Get the reason you got into art back into your life.

@FSGhost: Are all those things that you mentioned...is it going to stop you painting?

That's the thing, its al lpro or nothing. Thus 10,000 - 20,000 hrs needed. How many other professions take as much time and effort? Thus it's more a spiritual than material why people persue this path.

but those people are out there. you just have to literally be undeniably good at art

28 Jan 16:48

futurespaceghost

theres very few individuals that respect art as a career choice and even fewer who respect digital art as something worth forking money at

28 Jan 16:48

Art is a tough business, for the artist. You'll do 3 times the labor to make the gains.

28 Jan 16:46

futurespaceghost

and it being digital makes it even worse cause you dont have a physical copy and once its out there anyone can have it

28 Jan 16:44

i almost feel like im fooling myself sometimes. from the other viewpoint who really would spend 50 bucks on a character theyre prob gonna look at once or twice? to the average person its just an image that you cant interact with, that you show off to people every once and awhile, that you use as an avatar in a forum or as your fb cover image

oh i didnt mean the spectrum books i meant spectrum as in the range of work you will get as a pro freelancer

28 Jan 16:38

DanialG

It helps to live in a place thats really, and I mean really cheap.

28 Jan 16:38

Nous

Spectrum favors the traditional, for good reason.

28 Jan 16:37

Nous

--

I'm wondering about that. Wouldn't it just be better to start on what you like doing even if it is your own ip and work around it?

28 Jan 16:37

futurespaceghost

--

the spectrum goes from half naked warriors to naked animal hybrids with half naked warrior women in between

28 Jan 16:37

DanialG

--

Yea but at least the pay would be better and the ideas would kinda be tolerable up to a certain point

28 Jan 16:37

Prabu

@FSGhost: Damn...

28 Jan 16:36

futurespaceghost

i know what youre getting at but we wont be able to paint what we want to paint for a long time

28 Jan 16:26

DanialG

Is it worth all the trouble to be miserable painting stuff like that?

so yeah just checked my reddit post..its been an hour someone said my prices were "a little steep" another reported the image, and the last person basically tried to take whatever inquiries i would have gotten by saying he would do it cheaper with links to art that wasnt his own but saying he could paint it like those -_-

28 Jan 16:04

Good point about fan art - doesn't Dan do that?

28 Jan 16:01

futurespaceghost

--

in the us if you created it, you own the rights to it. but i dont know if that includes fan art. i always wondered how artists are able to sell prints of another persons ip

28 Jan 15:58

Nous

Anyone know any decent sites on copyrighting artwork?

28 Jan 15:54

futurespaceghost

seems like a great resource fir artists. again why i want a following before i start my own ips

28 Jan 15:47

Must everyone have to go through a fundraiser aka kickstarter to realise their projects?

28 Jan 15:40

futurespaceghost

28 Jan 15:38

Nous

Scott mcloud is good, I'd also highly recommend the Dc comics guides to comic's series and Framed Ink
