That is where the massive hours wasted feeling came from

Spaceghost: what I meant by 10 years, is that with my day job, I could only get 2h of practice per day if I didnt have freelance. That is roughly 600h per year if I dont do anything else. If I quit now and do 9h per day, I can have free nights and have almost 3,500h in a single year.

i dont subscribe to that whole "10 years before you can make money at art" thing. its been disproven by so many ppl like alex negrea.

It's more difficult to draw while driving. But I completely agree with you being stuck in a non-fufilling job can really be fustrating, man have I being there. What's left is to plan wisely and simply push yourself as hard as possible - remember folks that there is light at the end of all this!

17 Jan 03:51

Ursula Dorada

so it was time to quit wasting time here

17 Jan 03:51

Ursula Dorada

--

and when you sit down and do the math, you'd have to to drag this during 10 years to make the same practice time people can accomplish in 2, if you can go full time practice. It hurt a bit. Felt like a lot of wasted time on a job that was not fulfilling

17 Jan 03:50

Ursula Dorada

so yeah. Takes a bit of planning. I know a lot of people saying you dont need to quit your job to make this work, but I was feeling very, very stuck. The whole situation was holding me back

17 Jan 03:48

Ursula Dorada

No, no, I totally understand. We have a lot of people making excuses - however, the 14h shifts makes you sick, i can attest to that. And if you work and get freelance, you stagnate completely

Sorry if that steps on toes a bit, this is something I think about all the time.

Haha I have tried drawing on the bus. Nope, didnt work. 3rd world. Yes, I do budgeting, hence the decision.

17 Jan 03:40

Focus on what you can affect instead of what you can't. -if you spend time commuting, draw people on the bus

17 Jan 03:37

Heliux

I think it is harder, to work full time and make it happen, but it's not unlike challenges other people face in non-art related fields, i.e. Getting a degree and working full time. I think there are tools that can help like time management and budgeting

17 Jan 03:29

Heliux

This is why budgeting rules. Have you guys tried coming up with a monthly forecast of expenses/income?

17 Jan 03:26

Nous

But keeping a slow pace in the evenings can work and then take a break and explode into a few months of hardcore art - planning of coure will be essential, so next time I'll be aiming for pro deadline.

I tried going solo for a bit, now I need to return to the workplace for a while

it... did take time away. It felt like it was holding me back, so yeah, trying to fix that. Still scaring to give up the fixed income
