I wonder who is the next guest judge for CC

Not the most pleasing piece of art. But god can he tell a story. I love his indies.

There's this guy who's working for Marvel, Brian Bendis, who started out as an artist. His work looks like this: http://ifanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/jinx1.jpg

Yeah. That guy's designs do hold up don't they? That red motorcycle is iconic!

This is why I find guys like Katsuhiro Otomo so amazing. In Akira he tells a good story while having great perspective, good anatomy, cool SF designs, etc.

Yeah, sequential art combines both storytelling and drawing, that's two skills!

30 Jun 18:37

John

--

And there are not so technically sound artists who can tell a beautiful story.

30 Jun 18:36

John

Here's the thing about comics. You can be technically sound in art, (perfect anatomy, super nice colors and lighting, etc) but if you can't tell a story, you have failed as a sequential artist. I've seen a lot of really good artists working for the big two and fail on delivering a story.

30 Jun 18:34

Mechanizoid

But I know the self flagellation feeling. It's good to a point, but don't let it become a hindrance!

30 Jun 18:32

Mechanizoid

--

Or something, I dunno how you cook meat! XD

30 Jun 18:32

Mechanizoid

--

Sort of like saying that the turkey was cooked right but you didn't stuff it right

30 Jun 18:32

Mechanizoid

--

Not really, the drawing was pretty good but the sequential aspect was confused.

30 Jun 18:30

John

--

Haha! I'll stop self flagellating.. It's just I'm just extra hard on myself when it comes to sequential art. I take all opinions seriously.

30 Jun 18:27

John

That's like saying, "Overall, the steak dinner was nice, but the steak sucked."

30 Jun 18:26

Mechanizoid

--

Well, maybe not "always", but when you are learning it feels that way!!

30 Jun 18:25

Mechanizoid

--

But still, I got a pretty good idea of what was happening. :-) There's always something to improve!

30 Jun 18:25

Mechanizoid

@John I thought you did a nice job in your comic overall, except for the confusion with understanding the story.

30 Jun 18:17

John

--

Oh dude. You and Dan both. I sat through it, there were so much techniques to be taken in that video.

30 Jun 18:13

John

--

I was trying to be too clever about it that I forgot to serve what's important, which is the story.

30 Jun 18:12

John

--

Oh yeah. The old panel layout really left a disgusting taste after you guys pointed out how confusing it was.

30 Jun 18:12

John

--

I agree. I work better with a collaborator. I do not like every piece of sequential I did alone haha!

30 Jun 18:10

Amit Dutta

--

anyways...yeah. I learned heaps from Dan critting every single piece. :)

30 Jun 18:09

Amit Dutta

--

Also you didn't post the thing in it's entirety until the end...so nobody could give you feedback on the clarity part of the story

30 Jun 18:08

Amit Dutta

--

I also think the arbitrary change in reading direction didn't help your cause much. I like the idea of reading direction changing with a major life event, but perhaps the flow needed to be much clearer.

30 Jun 18:07

Amit Dutta

--

work on your scripts first then I guess and get feedback at that stage?

30 Jun 17:55

John

--

It's harder for me to do dialogues. I'll spend forever on rewrites and the panels will never stop changing haha!

30 Jun 17:49

Amit Dutta

No worries John, thanks! there were some in the chat who read it that way, but yeah Clarity is so important, but you took on an even bigger challenge without text so awesome work!
