yeah if its any good and you show it to the right people, stuff is bound to happen

The internet makes it easier to let people see your stuff and decide if they like it, right?

I want to create realistic space stuff in the tradition of SF from Andre Norton and Heinlein and C.J. Cherryh etc.

if it interests you it always is, even if there were no market for it. it's the 21st century, you can build that market from scratch if you can convince others that your vision is cool

I never thought about it that way, but yes, I've always known what I want to draw and design.

29 Jun 16:18

Jan Kloidt

youre really blessed by having that interest & knowing what you want

29 Jun 16:18

Mechanizoid

It's worth developing this then. :-)

good to know

29 Jun 16:18

Jan Kloidt

and if its well enough executed it will prolly get you a job because not many concept artists actually can do that stuff well

29 Jun 16:18

Mechanizoid

I've taken to writing down my ideas and story concepts and stuff

29 Jun 16:17

Jan Kloidt

--

thats a good thing to follow, write that project down and design everything in it and you got a coherent portfolio thats relevant to the market

29 Jun 16:17

Mechanizoid

I will! But my skills are barely developed yet LOL

Jinxing to avoid incoming atomic missiles, so everyone has to be strapped in gyroscopic chairs that swivel to align with whatever now counts as the thrust axis. XD

29 Jun 16:16

Jan Kloidt

sounds really cool, make it happen!

My style would more be a bunch of space marines trying not to get spacesick in a non-streamlined transport that just broke in from hyperspace and is making a burn to enter orbit.

29 Jun 16:15

Mechanizoid

--

That's the style I like. I eschew things like artificial gravity and stuff 'cause I find microgravity more interesting.

29 Jun 16:15

Jan Kloidt

--

i dont really have that, i prefer to suspend my disbelief and imagine that a space marine makes sense

29 Jun 16:14

Jan Kloidt

--

afaik about the market right now thats a great thing to have, the more grounded stuff gets made way more often

29 Jun 16:13

Mechanizoid

--

I tend to prefer something that looks like something I imagine can exist, but that is because I'm a total space nerd lol

29 Jun 16:13

Jan Kloidt

aye

29 Jun 16:13

Mechanizoid

--

No, it's not, it's comparing apples and oranges.

29 Jun 16:13

Jan Kloidt

its fantasy & mythology set in space

29 Jun 16:13

Mechanizoid

I always though it would be cool of artificial gravity in a spaceship worked like real gravity, i.e. it was a sphere and the gravity goes towards the middle.

29 Jun 16:13

Jan Kloidt

--

yeah but cou cant hold star wars up to that standard of realism, it was never designed to be that

29 Jun 16:12

Mechanizoid

--

I like spheres myself C:

29 Jun 16:12

Mechanizoid

--

Well, I think that realistic designs could be made cool

29 Jun 16:12

Jan Kloidt

--

except if its a really cool cube ofc :D

29 Jun 16:12

Mechanizoid

--

I find it funny that the old-fashioned tailsitting rocket actually makes more sense than most stuff in Star Wars

29 Jun 16:12

Jan Kloidt

--

but that wouldnt entertain anyone, but thats your job as a concept artists after all

29 Jun 16:11

Mechanizoid

--

Yep

29 Jun 16:11

Jan Kloidt

--

its space after all lol

29 Jun 16:11

in real life it could just be a boring cube and it could work
