yeah thats what star wars or final fantasy do

29 Jun 16:11

But in the real world, the direction of "down" in a spaceship is in the direction the exhaust in shooting.

29 Jun 16:11

Jan Kloidt

--

it makes sense in an entertainment context because of how people know how normal ships work so it helps to communicate that its supposed to do sth similar in space

29 Jun 16:11

Mechanizoid

--

Yeah, if it is a more Star Wars like thing these sort of inaccuracies are already set in stone.

29 Jun 16:10

Jan Kloidt

--

well it depends on the project again

29 Jun 16:09

Mechanizoid

It makes no sense to design them that way.

29 Jun 16:09

Mechanizoid

One thing I really intend to avoid: Laying out spaceships like they are boats.

29 Jun 16:09

Jan Kloidt

he's a real design thinker, also has some great design talks on youtube from THU events

29 Jun 16:09

Mechanizoid

Yeah

29 Jun 16:09

Jan Kloidt

--

it just feels like it could exist even if you dont know anything about spacecraft

29 Jun 16:09

Mechanizoid

Woah, nice ships!

29 Jun 16:08

Jan Kloidt

you can instantly tell how much knowledge and preparation goes into sth like this https://cdn0.artstation.com/p/assets/ima...1443927109

mike hill is a boss at that

I like more realistic spacecrafts, so I study how the real ones work a lot.

29 Jun 16:06

Jan Kloidt

--

that shows that you're heading the right way already! always follow your natural interests

29 Jun 16:06

Mechanizoid

I already nerd so hard about spacecraft, so that will be easy for me. :-)

29 Jun 16:05

Jan Kloidt

--

just delve deep into the subject matter, nerd out about it

29 Jun 16:05

Jan Kloidt

--

but if you just skip the preparation its just gonna be a generic space fighter

29 Jun 16:04

Mechanizoid

--

@Jan That sounds like a great idea, I'll try that. :-)

29 Jun 16:04

Jan Kloidt

--

and you can also mix it with other stuff from elsewhere to give it a different twist, which you can study in the same way

29 Jun 16:03

Jan Kloidt

gn8!

29 Jun 16:03

Jan Kloidt

@mech here's what you can do: 1 draw a bunch of real life spacecraft and try to learn what makes it what it is as you do it, 2: read about the parts that you want to know more of, 3: draw your own version on it that draws from everything youve learned about it

Bye Hermi!

I think Muzz is going to write something about that as well in the future. Look forward to read it. Alright fellas, chapping off. Gonna go read that article and call it a day.

I wanna draw space fighters. XD

@nic I asked sixmorevodka for a crit but didnt get one, guesss they were too busy at that time

Found an article that speaks what I meant, hopefully can give a better picture of other similar articles: http://muddycolors.blogspot.com/2014/04/...art-1.html
