Why wow mech? :)

I think Eduardo is right, though, The Killing Star is a projection of Cold War paranoia on an alien species

Oh also I think the Nikopol trilogy, a comic series by Enki Bilal a French dude is worth a read. It's not crazy wacky, but it's got that French wackiness with a bit of politics in it to make it fun.

EduardoGaray

yeah indeed, i always like to read with some music on, like a soundtrack makes it better than video for me

24 Jun 02:20

Amit Dutta

--

Haha I will try

It's al these frikkin screens around....temptation to be lured to video is much easier to succumb to. Bad thing

yup, blame! is my fav, but biomega is even more weird, can you imagine a world shaped like an intergalactic worm made of zombie flesh? xD

24 Jun 02:18

Amit Dutta

I don't read many. Last full one I read was 15 years ago...and I mostly got through Blame I think. I'll check it out. I really need to set time aside to read again. It's so good for nurturing creativity...I seem to forget that

24 Jun 02:16

EduardoGaray

specially biomega

24 Jun 02:16

EduardoGaray

his works are fucking alien, completely different to anything else in some aspects

24 Jun 02:15

EduardoGaray

dunno how much you are into manga mate, but i recommend anything by tsutomu nihei

24 Jun 02:15

EduardoGaray

haha japan is truly the definition of postmodernism xD

24 Jun 02:15

Amit Dutta

Poor tentacled robots that are having existential crises, about life and the meaning of the soul. :p

24 Jun 02:13

EduardoGaray

oh my

24 Jun 02:13

Amit Dutta

Poor tentacled robots?

I think Dune nailed the appropriation of human culture, but made it something very different....bloody brilliant. I'd love to see more people who don't usually do sci fi do sci fi. I really wish Jodorofsky got funding for his Dune movie

EduardoGaray

japan is going to be one of the most interesting countries in this century, they really cant do anything to avoid economic collapse, i wonder what will emerge from this weird culture they have developed after that

24 Jun 02:09

EduardoGaray

--

haha yeah

24 Jun 02:09

Amit Dutta

--

Manga I guess does better, but then it all relates to the weird Japanese psyche more...they almost are like aliens in a way haha

24 Jun 02:08

EduardoGaray

--

ah yeah dune is the holy grail for me in classic sci fi, i loved it

24 Jun 02:08

EduardoGaray

--

also about sci fi/space opera, people dont give the original gundam anime enough credit, it really shows what would happen if humanity moved to space without first adopting a more advanced form of society, war breaks, half of humanity dies in a week xD

24 Jun 02:07

Amit Dutta

--

Yeah that happens a lot, and it can be done so well....I mean Dune...holy shit. As a writer, it's probably harder to write something so off the wall and unique and still keep your audience with you. They gotta relate to something.

24 Jun 02:06

EduardoGaray

ah its an uphill battle mate, but you are good, you can win

24 Jun 02:05

Amit Dutta

Stupid freelance lol

24 Jun 02:05

EduardoGaray

--

thats one of the things i never liked about most western sci fi, they just take our world and put it on space, then the humans are the us/west europe and the other civs get a caricature of themselves as some alien race :P

24 Jun 02:05

I read like a maniac for 30 years...now I haven't finished a book in a year :/

24 Jun 02:04

Amit Dutta

No probs...I seem to recall an ancient thread, like 3 years ago on here where we listed books....I went a bit nuts on it haha

24 Jun 02:03

EduardoGaray

24 Jun 02:03
