@Amit: 'This' meaning art or life?

22 Jun 02:51

John

@Hob: There's this sleep tip I got from either Amit or some other dagger, or both, about sleep cycles. Something about waking up on your last sleep cycle or something. Basically, what I did was I scaled back sleeping hours until I find a good waking time!

I just hope you guys will realise that the skills grind, IS NOT what this is all about...it really isn't

22 Jun 02:48

Hobitt

--

that will fuck you up more than anything

22 Jun 02:48

Hobitt

--

yeah heres a tip NEVER SKIP SLEEP

22 Jun 02:47

Amit Dutta

Don't do that. Live your life 24 hours of the day. Figure out how much of that needs to be drawing

22 Jun 02:47

John

--

Why draw 16 hours a day when you can do 30!

22 Jun 02:47

Hobitt

--

who needs balance anyway! draw 16 hours a day everyday

22 Jun 02:46

John

--

@Amit: Bah. Balance. It was better when you were ironically going to extremes haha!

22 Jun 02:45

Amit Dutta

--

but yeah, long time before I show anyone that

22 Jun 02:44

Amit Dutta

--

I am actually writing the secret diary of a freelancer (like the secret diary of adrian mole) haha.

22 Jun 02:43

Amit Dutta

--

Nah, Dear art director is the AD side of the story

22 Jun 02:43

John

--

@Hob: I thought dearartdirector was the ultimate FAQ for freelance!

22 Jun 02:43

Amit Dutta

--

If you are more free-spirited and adventurous, freelance life will be better, but you have to be crazy fucking disciplined to make it work

22 Jun 02:42

Amit Dutta

--

John, in a more balanced answer to your question, going through a constant salary in a studio is much more manageable and easy. So aim for that if you want comfort

22 Jun 02:42

Hobitt

--

someone should compile the ultimate FAQ for freelance

22 Jun 02:41

Amit Dutta

--

and I think in some ways that's more useful, if you can hear past the frustration :)

22 Jun 02:40

Amit Dutta

--

eventually you will get the unadulterated truth

22 Jun 02:40

Amit Dutta

--

It's not annoying...but it is a bit like deja vu or a glitch in the matrix haha. Shouldn't stop you guys from asking, but also realise that if you ask the same shit to people, they probably have heard the same thing 1 million times before :)

22 Jun 02:39

Hobitt

--

i bet its gets annoying when everyone keeps asking you the same questions lol

22 Jun 02:35

Hobitt

--

but first need to do some studies

22 Jun 02:35

Hobitt

--

i will rework all my old pieces

22 Jun 02:35

Amit Dutta

--

you can use the same template for most things, changing the one sentence that feels customisable to them, as if you really considered them in the past. I highly recommend you make this sincere and do your research...but you can fake it if you want

22 Jun 02:35

Hobitt

--

but first need to get my portfolio in good shape

22 Jun 02:35

Hobitt

--

alright will keep that in mind

22 Jun 02:34

Amit Dutta

--

be professional. That means being concise and to the point. Tell them what you are about in one or two short sentences. tell them you are available now. Tell them one sentence on why you want to work for them. Include a link. That's all you need

22 Jun 02:33

Hobitt

--

altough doesent matter i will get rejections anyway so ill stick to the short ones

22 Jun 02:30

Hobitt

--

btw Amit when mailing companies can it be litterally " hey i want to work for you" insert jpgs and links and thats it. Dont like writing my life stories and walls of text

22 Jun 02:30

John

It is. Well. In the general sense of planning the future. It is fantasy.

22 Jun 02:29

Amit Dutta

--

it's all a fantasy man except what you do

22 Jun 02:29

Amit Dutta

--

but that's the thing if I was really upset, I would have believed all the bullshit I just spewed out

22 Jun 02:28

Hobitt

ohh well life tends to have a twisted sense of humor
