be professional. That means being concise and to the point. Tell them what you are about in one or two short sentences. tell them you are available now. Tell them one sentence on why you want to work for them. Include a link. That's all you need

It is. Well. In the general sense of planning the future. It is fantasy.

Amit Dutta

if you think life is a plan that goes to plan

22 Jun 02:27

Amit Dutta

--

Definitely work for a fucking studio first

22 Jun 02:27

Amit Dutta

--

realistically only after at least 5 years in the studio...but I am a smooth worker and ingratiator so maybe in 3

22 Jun 02:26

Amit Dutta

That contact, given how brilliant the story and unique it would have been, would have got me my own book/movie/game deal

22 Jun 02:26

Amit Dutta

Ok here was the plan John. I almost got into weta as a studio concept artist junior. Life fucked that up for me. If I had, I would have worked on all the large movies for the last two years. I probably would have made shit loads of contacts, and the potential to get any personal work I had done in that time (debateable given the work hours they do and the distance I live from the studio) right in front of Sir Richard Taylor himself.

Just wanted to hear stories is all. I mean, it's cool if you guys think its pointless. But look. If you're too tired just rest up haha!

Hobitt

22 Jun 02:21

Hobitt

--

hey amit do you agree with my observation that my art looks unfinished? trying to find flaws to fix them

22 Jun 02:21

John

--

@Amit: Even Alan Baldwin? Haha!

22 Jun 02:20

Amit Dutta

--

There....said every soldier ever. Does it stop us from war...NOpe

22 Jun 02:19

Amit Dutta

--

Let me tell you a war story. War is horrible. don't enter it.

22 Jun 02:19

Hobitt

--

ahh see but recon provides objective information : number of troops, amount of vehicles, geographic location etc. they wont tell you "nah man this position is shit lets attack it from somewhere else "

22 Jun 02:19

Amit Dutta

I think the problem with a lot of this stuff, and giving advice is, that people often discount how impactful their petty little notions can be to others. They say all sorts of things based on one individual's experience as if that meant a damn to someone else's. It doesn't. it disempowers people from taking control of their own lives...because "so and so did it this way, and look how they are now". Fuck. That. Shit

22 Jun 02:18

John

--

Well, of course of course.. the end of the day, the decisions on me. But look, not asking for stories is like going into war raw. It's like saying recons are stupid because end of the day you're still going to fight a war

22 Jun 02:18

Hobitt

--

the rendering is just not there, so working hard to fix this

22 Jun 02:17

Hobitt

--

on side note ive been looking and comparing my art to good art and i noticed. My biggest flaw is that my stuff looks flat and unfinished

22 Jun 02:15

Hobitt

but stuff like studio or freelance is very subjective some people love working in studios other hate it what if you ask 3 people and all of them hated it and you just happen not to encounter people who love it , and it turns out you would have loved a studio job but those opionions swayed you
