--Since I know he starts with gestures, and builds from there. Of course not too sure if he studied Hampton or not, since his style does feels that he also learned from Hampton.

--Haha i'm just trying to prevent strawmen to my arguments as much as possible, as learning is a topic that riles up a lot of people.
28 May 20:48
--I can't! Because, to a certain extent, I agree with you. See. If I'm opening a school for art, I can't just say: "Hey guys! First lesson to learning art: Do whatever you think that works and run with it!".
28 May 20:44
--Dudes, talk about it in the thread, not the shoutbox... i laid out the arguments super clear.

--The only reason why I won't get too deep with this, there's this unspoken context of it being a "fundamentals in high brow art". Coming from a comic book background (in which, having energy and good storytelling in your work is better than having a superior grasp of anatomy), all this talk is malarkey haha!

--It's true that you do need some prior knowledge to make good looking gestures, but it's not too bad for just jumping in and getting used to drawing, even if it's stick figures.
28 May 20:32
--My point isn't that gestures are bad, it's that they are a terrible starting point for beginners. not sure if you read my thread or not.
28 May 20:30
--That said, I believe both slow drawing and gestures are important but in different ways.
28 May 20:28
--For me gestures are a bit of learning the figure/poses, getting the mind and hand loosened for later drawing, and finding ways of simplifying the figure. There are a lot of benefits you get from gestures, and all it takes is maybe 20-30 mins a day. That is also how I draw when I do stuff from imagination. Quick gestures to find a pose I like and move on from there. I don't think I would ever be able to find a pose I wanted with slow drawing.

--Yep, my love affair with gestures ended about a month into doing them....realised there wasn't much point until I knew wtf I was drawing :)
