--The only reason I stream if I do, is because I am lonely painting, and it keeps me working if someone is there watching you...but it can be distracting too.
16 May 19:08
--thanks! I was wondering. Would it be wise to stream studies etc at my level?
16 May 19:07
--Working on CC3, too. I got too deep in the fundamentals yesterday, S.Robertson "How to render" not sure if it was the right thing to do because there's no progress with my value sketch so far :)
16 May 19:07
--Ah yeah I have been practicing off and on for about 2 years. More off than on of late...which is why I am a mess probably. I mean there are lots of different techniques and rationale and mythology depending on what you read....Buddhist or Daoist etc. I tend to think of it as simply as just sitting and being present. All the other stuff is pretty doctrinal in some ways...moving energy and things like that. Though I have had some pretty intense experiences in self healing which were a little mindblowing at the time
16 May 19:05
--@Amit I agree about mindfuness! But I don't know much about meditation. I thought there were just different kinds of it, including not-thinking, concentrating on certain stuff, etc. Do you know some meditaion techniques? :)
16 May 19:03
--working hard on the CC, but am kinda stuck at art last few days, trying to get out of it ;p
16 May 19:01
--i suspect the reason mindfulness reduces procrastination is because people who meditate become more aware of themselves, and more engaged in the present, rather than understanding how the brain works.
16 May 18:59
--Yeah but mindfulness is not about controlling the mind at all, or "offloading" processing. It's about being more aware of your own mind and thoughts and inner state. That's basically all. So he got the main premise of mindfulness wrong. It's a common misconception. People think meditation is about not thinking, which it isn't
16 May 18:52
--I don't think that was quite his message amit. More what he was saying was that understanding how the brain works means that you can learn to offload processing into the subconcious.
16 May 18:49
--Hope people are working away at CC3! Attendence seems to be dropping past the first hype...let's not let off the pedal daggers!
16 May 18:13
--Not bad. I prefer the panic monster and instant gratification monkey on the waitbutwhy posts on procrastination :) Also, minduflness is definitely not about trying not to think! :)
16 May 15:51
--Yep pretty much :D! it's a long game and you have to enjoy it along the way
16 May 15:42
--Perform, reevaulate, practice, perform repeat. it's nice looking at art from this perspective. Don't apologize! You're coming from an entirely different tier; when i get to your level, I may share your sentiments hahaha
16 May 15:39
--When i was a little kid, i was in band. I remember how hard it was to learn a simple piece like jungle bells lol. it felt good to finally be able to successfully perform that little tune. I feel the same way with art, sometimes. i dunno. Even though i realize that I will never be 'finished' learning, it feels nice achieving what I set out to do within my current limits, as an artist.. I'm excited to improve so I can experience this feeling with another work. So on and so forth.
16 May 15:03
--But you are right, hitting your stride where you stop hating your work is nice... i think? I'll tell you when i get there
16 May 14:23
--Haha wait till you are working on a large project where you need to keep a consistent quality, despite the fact you kept improving :P
16 May 13:49
--@othermuzz- the moment in time where you are 'performing' the art rather that 'learning' it feels good. Like a musician or dancer...you do enjoy those moments, right?
16 May 12:35
--I have a very short attention span for concepts i realize. Supposed to be finishing compositions and started a short comic strip :P
16 May 12:13
--i never want to stop treating art like a student... thinking i know what im talking about made me stop improving for a few years...
