--@BrushNoir I find when checking saturated colours, I also make sure to check also less saturated colours near it, there is a relationship, getting close to one gives you a way to gauge the other and vice versa

--With hue and saturation the problem is that it's dependant on the forms that you're painting, the properties of the surfaces and the lighting situation. If your understanding of those isn't on point you're just not going to be able to get it to work. So you might think that you can't get your hue/saturation levels right, when the problem lies with something else entirely. The easiest thing you can do is check whether your image looks good in greyscale.
